If the fight would have happened in they're prime. Who do you got? I pick Lopez; but then again I am a huge Ricardo Lopez fan. Carbajal had a huge punch though.:huh
Definitely Lopez. I see Carbajal with no advantages in anything, and I see Lopez as having more to his game, such as his footwork and punch variety, as well as his defense.
Yes when Chicita Gonzalez boxed Carbajal couldn't deal with it. & Lopez is a much better boxer than Gonzalez. I would look for Lopez to capture a UD. Carbajal always has that punchers chance. But Lopez is very disaplined & won't take dumb chances.
Thhing is, Carbajal did have good fundamentals, and probably did hit harder than Lopez. Keep in mind that a well-shcooled pressure fighter like Alvarez was able to give Lopez fits, so I think Carbajal would likely do the same....at least for a while. Lopez plays it safe in the early rounds, survives a few shaky moments, and comes back to score a kd en route to a close, but convincing UD.
Thats the way I see it going too. I could imagine Lopez going down from a Carbajal left; but getting up to eventually win the fight.
Carbajal had very good fundamentals, but was more basic than Lopez, and didn't have the movement, defense, or variety. Also, perhaps he was a harder hitter, but not by a long shot, as Lopez was a hell of a puncher as well, with one punch KO power. I'm imagining the fight taking place earlier in Lopez's career, rather than as he was when he actually decided to move up, as I felt he was past his prime. A prime Lopez takes Carbajal out in my opinion.
Probably the most skilled practitioner of the boxing textbook I've ever seen to be honest. That is the main reason for my high rating of him.
:yep I rate him very higher aswell. Shame he didn't move up until the end of his career. He could probably of been a 4 weight world champion with his technical ability and power.
I think he fit those two weights(105 and 108) very well against anyone, but I doubt he'd have been able to take guys like Johnson and Arbachakov at Fly or guys like Konadu at 115. He could probably take a few good ones at 112 though.
What about guys like Bonilla and Sasakul at 112 and In-Joo Cho and Kawashima at 115? I'm looking at the guys who were champions around 96, 97, 98 around when Lopez started unifying.
Those are the types I'm talking about. Kawashima is a tough customer at 115, gave Mijares tough fights, would be interesting stuff. Sasakul was a slick, skilled boxer that gave Arbachakov a tough time, would've been interesting to see how Lopez would've dealt with that, as well as a guy like Zapata(though of course that was a different period).
If Lopez moved up to Challenge Gonzalez, Now that would have been a very interesting fight. Gonzalez could box effectivly & had murderous power.
Gonzalez was not as good as Carbajal. I actually consider Gonzalez a bit overrated relative to the other top fighters around Flyweight and under of that period and the one prior. One of Lopez's easier victims in Saman Sorjaturong took him out as well in another fight of the year he was in.
