Could be either a knockout or a decision. But yes Dokes should be favored. Michael has fast hands and decent boxing skills so I don’t know if he’d be in huge trouble of falling behind on the cards to Leon
I would favor Dokes as well. He had incredible hand speed and was more naturally talented than Leon. I think prime Leon brings his swarming high pressure style and definitely has a chance but I would put my money on Dokes talent over Leon's balls and heart. With that said, I would be rooting for Leon for sure!
Makes you wonder how far those two guys could have gone if they had more discipline and had stayed clean outside the ring.
Speaking of Leon, I hear he's in real bad shape. Prostate cancer is taking it's toll (and was supposed to take him back in November) and he's supposedly near the end.
Could be a humdinger of a fight, both going for it. Dokes speed is the key here. Dokes finally nails Leon in around the tenth. Good scrap imo.
Dokes by 6th round TKO. Ironically, Leon's first National was a decision win over a 15 year-old Michael in 1974.
Yeah he is not doing well at all. The cancer is in his bones now and he is terminal. I'm shocked that he hasn't passed yet. I met him a few times when I was kid just learning to box. He is hands down the nicest pro I ever met.
That quick left hook of Dokes wouldn't miss. And he could lead with it but was usually more effective as a counter. Spinks is right there for the punch. And the spinks defense is not going to avoid the punch. I think a 1 or 2 round blowout like the Coetzee bout---Leon will never see the punch and there will too much time in the round remaining for his defense to make it to the end of the round. I like Leon's chances against opponents without quick hands having snap on their punch.
Dokes at his best was quick and had very fast hands. He was more talented and I'd pick him to beat Leon.
