Dokes was superior at getting his punches to bounce off his opponent's arms without inflicting damage.

Dokes was superior at running out of gas after a few rounds.

    Dokes was superior at losing.

Dokes was superior at earning controversial wins.

Dokes was superior at failing to be recognized as the legit World Heavyweight Champion.

Dokes was ultimately superior at showing he was an inferior fighter to Mike Weaver.

Weaver got such a raw deal. He deserved a second shot at Holmes but King couldn't risk that.

So Dokes benefitted from two controversial wins over Weaver. (Reminds me of Ward/Kov & GGG/Canelo) Worse, Dokes couldn't even pass the Cobb test in two tries.

Dokes had fast hands but wasn't very accurate or effective. He had slow feet too. Fun fighter, had a good brawl with Evander but I'm not convinced he could even beat Don Kockell without some outside help.

Thank's for your choice, now I have to change my All time HW rankings, instead of Marciano top 5 or even top 10 as 99.9% of all top ten lists agree, I will have to replace him with DOKES, Michael Dokes Top 5 All Time HW, has a nice ring to it don't you think so. LOL!

Oh almost forgot, Dokes throws a ton of punches, Rocky takes them all, probably gets cut up pretty good, but then eventually gets inside, by round 10, most likely a lot sooner and hits Dokes harder than he has ever been hit in his life, he was not the greatest ring general ever, so Dokes would look at the smaller and probably slower in his opinion Rocky and stand toe to toe with him is my thought and might get KOed early.
Ali spoke very well of an aging Marciano after their computer fight ended, he said Rocky hit very hard, was quick and hard to hit even at his age.
They both said that on a very occasions things got out of hand for a few mins and both threw some punches

Ali also said Rocky was bigger and stronger than he thought about him being from video he had seen.

    Lol what?
Does Satterfield go to war with Bowe and not get KOed? Does Satterfield go 24 rounds against Lewis and not get dropped? Does Satterfield brawl with Foreman and Mercer without being KOed or Dropped?

No. No. No. I'd pick Moorer to beat Satterfield

The best Dokes would be by far the fastest fighter that Marciano faced. He'd land power shots at range and probably score a knockdown

That being said Rocky in 8.

Top 10 lists are based on a historical perspective. Now, if you think the early 1950's heavies are analogous to the 1980's heavies, you have an argument. I don't think the divisions were analogous. Again, Marciano spent a very short time fighting what were considered elite fighters in his day. Those "elites" presentrd a very narrow spectrum of talents. Thus our sample size with him is tiny.... And not at all analogous to what was around in the 1980's.

    Dokes KO10.

There was nothing special about Dokes...he was a front running, fast starting, soon to slow down, average fighter...a fluke stoppage win over Weaver, and debatable draw with MW in the rematch, and then gets clobbered by Coetzee. Marciano starts slowly, weathers what storm he has to weather, all the while slowing down Dokes to a crawl, and dispatches him anywhere between rounds 9 to 11.

Dokes had a grand total of 2 knockouts that came in Round 10 or later. Both against no-name opposition, whom he couldn't keep down for the count.

Oh wait I forgot Rocky was a wild swinging amateur who got lucky in every one of his fights. He loses to everyone after 1960 (though he might get lucky against Jeff Sims).

Seriously? I thought you were better than this cobra! Remember this is a Marciano thread. Instead of posting this accurate and well thought out garbage you should've said something along the lines of "Marciano was a glorified club fighter and would be lucky to see the 2nd round against Dokes." Shame on you Mr. Cobra. Shame on you.
