I do not count out Gomez grit or that he still has ability and passion but I really want to see him retire. He fights face first and against the better standard big punching opponents he will get hurt and I really do not want to see that. Nice to see fair weather scots fan Dunky stabbing his country men in the back once again. Wonder whom he will be slagging off next?
Agree about him being a cracking fighter and a good lad, but he's ****ing nuts mate. People who want to tap shins to say hello aren't right.
I dont know if anyone down south seen it, but there was footage at the weigh-in shown in Scotland, & Gomez was back to his old self, sticking the head in etc... I have to give Gomez credit, cos just bout no boxing stories get shown on scottish news, but gomez is so 'in your face' he even made the presenters up here joke that they wouldnt want to fight him! He certainly knows how to sell himself. Maybe I was wrong to say that I had no interest in the fight, cos after seeing Gomez at his irritating worst, it had my scottish juices flowing imagining him & Arthur going at it again... Ahh boxing, no wonder I cant give it up!
BTW it all went off at the weigh in yesterday. LOL. Gomez put his head in Careys face, Carey pushed him, Gomez stuck the nut in... From what i've heard so may be slightly different sequence of events.
SCOTS ring star Alex Arthur was the target of a tirade of abuse from Michael Gomez after the frustrated former world champ had failed to make the weight for his latest fight. There were chaotic scenes at the weigh-in for tonight's Gomez-Baz Carey clash at Motherwell's Dalziel Park Hotel. Gomez failed to make the light welterweight limit of 10 stone after a half-hour delay. The Dublin-born Mancunian then removed his trunks and stood naked on the scales but was still four ounces over the limit. It was then agreed Gomez would pay his English adversary a 15 per cent forfeit from his purse so the fight can go ahead. This sparked a verbal exchange between the two fighters, who had to be separated before being coaxed back together for photographs to publicise what now promises to be an even more intriguing battle. Gomez then turned his attention to Arthur. The Edinburgh fighter, who lost his WBU world super-featherweight title to Englishman Nicky Cook last month, told Record Sport earlier this week he wants a rematch with Gomez. They fought for the British title five years ago when Gomez beat the then holder over five brutal rounds at the Meadowbank Arena. Talk of a rematch sent Gomez into a rage. He said: "Arthur is a p***k. "I telephoned him and said, 'I don't like you and you don't like me, so why don't we get it on?' And do you know what he said in reply? 'God bless you'. That was his only comment. "I'm a religious man but let's leave God to get on with his job and we'll get on with ours in the ring. "I'll beat Arthur any day of the week and I've told his promoters I'll meet him anywhere at super-featherweight. That's the weight I was when I beat him the last time and that's what I'll be when I beat him again. "I've gone to his fights and worn a sombrero to publicise my presence but did he ever come and watch me? "I'm a promoter's dream because I make headlines wherever I go, whoever I fight. Put me and Arthur in a ring and I'll make a few more at his expense." Yesterday's weigh-in was meant to be a sedate affair in the golf and country club that will be filled to capacity to see the controversial Gomez negotiate the next fight in a career of highs and lows. But the man whose life is currently being turned into a movie at the same time as his biography is being written doesn't do sedate. Gomez also blasted Coventry's Carey, saying: "The people who turn up for the fight should wear sunglasses because I'm going to sparkle against that little idiot. "If I lost to someone like him I'd retire on the spot." http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/...ex-arthur-any-day-of-the-week-86908-20790437/ Arthur must of been gutted he couldnt give him a hug and a kiss through the phone.
Not long tbh.it was only about 2 weeks ago...i had a invitation to the press release This fight bewtween him and baz carey is the main event !this is sort of fight that show's how ropey boxcing can go .
I think Gomez fought at 150 last time so shedding the excess may have proven difficult. It seems he will do everything in his power to make people believe he is a nutter
