Michael Grant continues winning streak...

Yes, that is sad.

Off the top of my head...Holyfield, Grant and recently Seldon come to mind as in-shape former 'name' American heavyweights. Rahman can be, problem is he usually blobs right the hell up after a loss. Can't think of too many others...pretty sad state of affairs.

Cruiser1 - yes, after the KDs in the 3rd and 4th, Grant won the 6th round purely down to being busier than Guinn. Shields was livid. Grant was actually easily winning the 3rd as well, until he took his first knockdown with just 30 seconds left in the round. As said, between the knockdowns Guinn was pretty quiet. Solve that problem, like oh I don't know, not throwing the right uppercut up close for example, and it's a fight Grant could've won.

But, like I say, can't change that now.

I'd want another fight by Jan or at the latest Feb for Grant, doesn't have to be much of a step-up but definitely shouldn't be lower than Marinaccio. A stoppage win should be the priority there. Then grab another quick one against similar, before May is out. Then try to get a fight against someone with a ranking and roll that dice. There are certainly a few guys on current top twenty rankings lists that seem to be there practically by default than by any good performances or notable wins, you can always aim for them.

It's not about his focus or his talent or his physical attributes. BOxing is very much mental as you say and Mentally Grant hasn't been secure in his ability since his Lewis fight and even the Golata fight. Mentally he's never going to be a vialbe threat in this sport b/c he's damaged goods at this point. His potential was through the ****ing roof, but he'll never be as good as he could have been now....that train has come and gone. All he can hope to do is become a journey man and make a decent living.

Not sure what he could have left really. The winning streak doesn't include anyone remotely worth mentioning. Let him keep earning a living fighting the club level guys.

 

Grant and Povetkin makes a good fight. Alex is going to need a tune up- why not a big, hard punching but beatable heavy to help him prepare for Walddy?

And if Grant wins, he's rigth back in the mix. If he looses, well, he's really got nothing to loose at this point.

Michael beat a long string of very on form heavyweights as he rose up through the ranks, and did very consise jobs on most all of them, David Izoneratei, Obed Sullivan, Alfred Cole etc.. he didn't just jump aboard and start boxing stiffs, these guys were credible men.. For a late starter Mike was very good and many picked him over Lewis.. He was no stiff.. he was just a bit rushed and limited.. If he cleans up his act there is no reason why he cant mix with a few of the guys around now.. Chambers and arreola would appreciate solid work against a man of Mikes caliber if he resurfaces to a decent level.......

Povetkin is almost a boxing God compared to Mike at this point..

I know what Alex is capable of first hand..

He is very understated and will have a great pinnacle to his career, He is very strong and has massive heart.. Mike isn't the right man for Povetkin right now, he is a few levels down the ladder to be fair..
