Michael Grant continues winning streak...

I like Michael Grant he is a good kid, What ****ed up his career was bringing in Teddy Atlas who spent most of his time putting Michael down and mentally breaking him down on national TV, I mean damn just because he made some mistakes you dont have to take his confidence from him....

Way wrong and it pisses me off just thinking about it... Teddy gets far more credit than he deserves.

Grant showed balls when he came back to rally against Golota. The first, was a vicious KD(watch the highlight clip below), one of the best punches I've seen Golota throw and he managed to survive that. He should have used the Golota fight as a learning opportunity or at least an indication that he was not ready to face a tip top prime Lewis. Who knows, maybe he's one of these later bloomers who still has something to show.

It didnt really work with Moorer either. Moorer has come out saying being trained by Atlas completely took his fight confidence, that Atlas was impossible to please and that there was nothing he could do right, it was constant criticism.


Watching Atlas berate Grant in the corner was pitiful to watch. I dont understand as a teacher myself (I consider a coach and a teacher to be similar things) how chopping up your pupil and critiquing their efforts is supposed to motivate them in any way. That is just horribly discouraging, making them feel like they have no chance to do anything for a win.

 

I think it depends on the pupil. A good teacher knows which strategy his student will react to best and is flexible enough to apply what will work best. Atlas strikes me as a very rigid teacher. One indication of this is his well known arrogance. Another, is his constant repetition of the same old advice, no matter what fight he's watching.

 

golota and grant are very similar...both possess excellent physiques, big power and are not top level as BOXERS...and both have mental frailties...big mike could maybe make waves but at this point in his carreer id rather see him make money....personally i dont think he has the mental edge to fight, and beat vitali or vlad, though i suppose its not outside the realms of belief that, with a bit of self belief combined with his physical gifts and thumping power he could mug vlad a la corrie sanders...

 

Not a bad idea, actually. Might be some tv interest/decent pay, potentially winnable for both guys (have to *gulp* favor Harrison, though). Certainly a good undercard fight (say, Vitali's Dec. date, if that comes off?).

 

Grant was red hot going into the decade fresh off a Golota stoppage however he had been down and was behind when Golota quit. He had Lewis hurt in the first but then just took a beating. He also hurt his ankle real bad. Instead of taking a tune up he went straight to a young and on a streak McCline who stopped him with the 1st punch and once again he hurt his ankle. After winning a few lesser fights he got stopped on national TV against Guinn. Marinaccio his only real test since. Mayber he has the tools maybe he doesn't but I can't see him beating the three men with belts right now maybe his 2000 version stood a chance but not now.

 

It does depend on the pupil, but then how many successful fighters has Atlas had? Moorer is really the only one, and Moorer definitely suffered under Atlas after his loss to Foreman. Atlas didnt make him any better after that. Moorer eroded after that fight mentally.
