Michael Grant's close decision loss to Polish speedster Tomasz Adamek last night could have been just what the doctor ordered for Big Mike's resurging career. In the fight, Grant proved that the big punch is still there. On several occasions he had Adamek on ***** street. Only Adamek's speed and smaller size saved him from a one-way ticket to the canvas. Facing a more evenly matched opponent closer to his own size, Grant will not have to worry about the excessive speed and quickness which offers a lopsided advantage to the smaller man. Grant will more easily hunt down another super-heavy and chop him down. Following impressive victories against Charles Hatcher, Kevin Montiy, and Billy Zumbrun, and his coming out party last night against Adamek, Michael Grant is back in the mix. The Super Heavies have officially been served notice.
Michael Grant was horrible last night. He looked shot, his shots were telegraphed, often wide, and unbearably slow.
did you see the fight or only read about it? grant was pathetic and wouldnt even throw jabs at ademek ...if he would have fired his jab at ademek once in a while instead of paw it...ademek wouldnt have ven gotten close to him.....a 6 foot 7 255 pound guy like grant got beat by a guy that was fighting 175 pounders 3 years ago.....grant was awful
Grant is only stepping down....no step up with Adamek. How many other washed up heavyweights can Adamek fight!
Grant wasn't as good as the TS suggest, but not as bad as other posters are saying. His shots weren't "painfully slow", he caught the smaller quicker adamek many times. he did chase him around most of the fight too. he should've used the jab more and should've been able to do more when adamek was hurt tho
Grant fought like a sparring partner for most of the night. He did his best but Grant is and always have been a cut below elite. He's a good gatekeeper.
I thought Grant was a good guy. Why did he not shake hands with Adamek after the fight? Anyone catch that?
Grant has got his name going again, and I'd tell him if I were his manager to keep a high public profile and fight on ESPN or FSN or some other TV outlet ASAP! Keep the wave rolling... Post some wins against anyone who's a heavyweight that has a license and is decent.... This is the day and age of the old farts hanging around in boxing..... As long as Grant stays in-shape and is evenly matched against dude's his own age, he can still bank some cabbage before age 40...... My question is: "How well off $$$ is Mike Grant in 2010?" That 3 million dollar check from Lewis 10 yrs ago was sliced and diced into several pieces... Did Grant wisely tuck any of it away to where in makes interest in some fund?? MR.BILLARDO Mike Grant is a CONTENDER in 2010........ Perhaps # 9 or 10, but in the mix......
I did not see fight. Opinions on it here range from Grant sucked, to Grant deserved decision. If he was half way good, and is going to keep fighting top fighters, he might get sharper and give us some good fights. For those who say he looked awful, how much of it seemed like confidence issue or rustyness rather than lack of ability? Thanks.
I don't think he has it anymore, physically. He wouldn't throw his jab with any conviction, and he seldom threw a punch with authority for the first couple of rounds. When he tried to initiate, you could see that his timing was all off, and he was reaching, out of range. I think the very idea of Grant being relevant again is complete lunacy, and put it this way, had it been David Haye fighting him the other night, all of the Polish and American fans would be in agreement.
Grant is in-shape and solid at 261 pounds, but his speed and reflexes have slowed with his 38 years of age...... The biggest problem aging fighters who are over age 35 face is dealing with speed... Speed is an old farts worst nightmare.... As long as team Grant places their man in with dude's who like to stand and trade, I see Grant having some success there.... I think Grant fighting either "Briggs or Peter" would be a war..... Grant can hang and stay in the pocket with them two plodders...... team Grant needs to do some careful match-making if they wish to remain in the game.... MR.BILL
Yeah, Grant got smoked there. I'll give him credit for giving it his best shot, and the fact he kept getting up (or trying to). Only way he was going to win that was trying for an early KO, so at least he gave it a go.
