There was not close decision. I have Adamek winning every round except the 12th. Adamek got hurt once by a headbutt that landed immediately after a right hand landed. I think it was at the end of the sixth round. Watch it carefully. That is where one cut came from for sure. Grant used a lot of elbows, don't know if he meant to, but he landed lots of elbows. I had Adamek winning every round except a couple. That fight was not close. Actually, I can't even give Grant the 6th for landed one punch and a huge headbutt.
michael grant as big as he is fighting a guy not far removed from 175 and looking that bad is a contender now all of the sudden? man, you guys are delusional......
Regardless of the boldness of these statements posted..... Michael Grant is a name and has some form of ranking by the WBC and some other ABC group..... Plus, losing to Tom Adamek, who was favored anyway, will not damage Grant's ranking at this juncture...... You can't penalize a fighter for losing a decision when he was the friggin' underdog..... :deal MR.BILL:hat
Uh, Grant did get the better of Lewis in the opening minute...and did appear to hurt him with 1-2s that put him on the ropes. But Lennox turned it around very quickly with his "dirty boxing" on the inside.
I guess Lewis got a bloody mouth from brushing his teeth too hard before the fight and only wanted to test the ropes elasticity after being hit by the right hand at 2:48? Grant landed a couple of punches, Lewis was put on the defense but he adjusted quickly and ended the fight. This isn't reaching, this is how the fight went down. What am I even reaching for? If anything, I frquently use this fight as an example of Lewis' prose and ring IQ. Not fair to say that Lennox just brutally destroyed the guy as if he was a bum that offered no challenge. That would be Grant/McCline. Now I could make case for this being denial in the highest order..being that you want to pretend the first minute of the fight didn't happen...cause I don't know.. Grant landing punches against Lewis would somehow give Adamek credit? Whatever, you seem very insecure.
It is not problem in fighters age.38 is not old for todays standards.Vitali Klitschko is 39 and he has good reflexes.Adamek is small and with great speed. When fighter with normal reflex fight with fighter with great reflex than he looks slow but he is not that slow.Todays scientist prove that peoples brain has best reaction at age of 39.Normaly in boxing its depends how much punishment did you take and is fighter brain normaly or damaged.Todays fighters prime is much older careers because they dont take so much punishment like great fighters in past, they dont have so many fights and they go later in pro.Todays heavyweight are in their peak in 30s not in 20s.
Grant came out scared and threw a few big shots and landed. I suppose technically you aren't wrong in saying Grant got the better of Lewis after the first minute, but in hindsight it seems so insignificant that it hardly warrants a mention. Lennox Lewis did brutally destroy the guy. He had him down twice in the first round, and out cold for the second. Grant came out swinging, landed a shot or two, but on the grand scale, one guy got waxed in double quick time. It's not important enough to argue over, I acknowledge that Grant landed one or two shots. Make your case. I would have no motivation for being in denial. I'm not a Lennox Lewis fan or a Tomasz Adamek detractor. Likewise, I don't see how Grant landing a punch on Lewis over 10 years ago would have anything to do with the Psycho Killer. It may seem I am insecure, but it's just that I found it to be ridiculous, and perhaps still do, that we've described the first 60 seconds of the Lewis/Grant fight to be anything other than a prelude to a massacre.
Look... Grant is a fresh age 38.... He's only fought a dozen times or so since 2000...... He is also in good shape here in 2010 at 261 pounds..... But he has slowed down since I saw him years ago..... After age 35, speed begins to dip..... It never improves in an athlete who's trained most of his life...... Grant is not as slow as "Foreman" or "Tua" these days, but he's no spitfire anymore..... Matching Grant in 2010 with fireballs of the ring would be dumb on the part of his team......Grant needs to fight sluggers who plod....... MR.BILL:hat
Cmon peeps this is Michael Grant we're talking about , the man destroyed some years ago by ( americas answer to audley ) Domonic Guinn . Adamek was just too small for this fight and still managed to sneak a win. Put Grant in with anyone with approaching HW power and he gets smoked.
There's NO way Grant should have won the decision. The fight wasn't even close, except that there were a few times when Adamek seemed to be hurt and Grant might have been able to knock him out. Grant looked decent - he had more left than I thought he would, but as always he pawed with the jab and would only throw with authority once in a while. That shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who's ever watched Michael Grant fight though. He's not going to suddenly change as a fighter when he's 38. But it looked like a decent amount of old Michael Grant was still there. Obviously slower though.
