Still don't (quite) get the hype with this guy. He's decent and awkward, and seems to pack a bit of power to go along with his small size, but he's shown nothing thus far to indicate he'd get anywhere near the top of the division. His speed is average, his jab is slowish and lunging, especially to the body, he's frequently sloppy and scrappy with his combinations, and his head movement, while better than a lot of HWs at the moment, isn't the type of Chris Byrd like slickness that would give fighters like Joshua fits. He reminds me a lot of Bryant Jennings a few years ago, obviously a decent fighter but with no outstanding qualities that could trouble the very best.

That is the celing for him. Too small, doesn't hit hard enough. Hunter has good skills, but he'd need great speed and defense ( his is only good ) to go further.

Usyk beat him easy, and any big guy with skill and a jab will have him at the end of their punches. The good news for him? Picking safe non top ten opponents for title fights is in vogue right now, so he might get a shot.

James Ali Bashir on Michael ''The Bounty'' Hunter

He predicted Hunter was going to bash up Bakole and those other HW behemoths he beat

Says he has Hunter ranked #5 in the world at HW right now and that he wouldn't let him anywhere near his fighters

On someone saying AJ stops Hunter within six rounds

''If Michael Hunter is in shape ain't nobody going to stop him inside six rounds. Nobody in boxing today is going to stop him inside six rounds. I'm telling you. I've seen the sparring sessions between Wlad and Hunter. I've seen Sirenko with Hunter''

''He can punch, he can box, he's slick, he's got good eyes and good reflexes. He's got everything he needs to go to the Super Bowl''

On fans thinking AJ would walk straight through Hunter

''No, ain't nobody going to walk through Michael Hunter. Let me say that again. Ain't nobody going to walk straight through Michael Hunter. There ain't nobody in boxing who is going to walk straight through Michael Hunter. You're going to have to work to do it because he's that good''

''Michael Hunter would've had a field day with the AJ that fought Joseph Parker. The man can box''

''If you get in a ring with Hunter and you're not prepared for all that slick stuff he does, boy, he's going to beat your behind good''

''Those guys are going to have a big problem with him. I know this kid, I've worked with him on two occasions and I'm telling you he's a gifted guy. I'm telling you.. he's a gifted guy'

''He can handle a lot of the guys in the top 10''

''But I ain't going to say nothing else.. I'm just going to let all the doubters, and all the detractors.. just watch and see. Just watch and see and you're going to see something. You're going to see something really special''

AJ shamelessly ducked a real fighting man in Michael ''The Bounty'' Hunter Jr. and his long awaited step up to CW Level, Chicken coop dweller and female dog extraordinaire and fraud of frauds Bum Squad aka Duck Squad shamelessly ducked AJ. The boxing gods decided to punish AJ for his lack of testicular fortitude and sent forth Michael ''The Bountry'' Hunter's surrogate son Andy Ruiz Jr. to teach him a lesson who unbeknownst to AJ and co also happened to be a real fighting man and mark my words they will send another real fighting man to punish Bum Squad for his pathetic pusillanimity only this time it won't be the ghost of a 40% one who their judges will be able to rob blind.

FTR, I've spoken to the elders on the caravan site this morning and both Hunter and Ruiz are honorary gypsies now.

Eric Molina has pulled out of the Joseph Parker fight after being violently knocked out in sparring by a female bantamweight

Guess who was the first to throw their name into the hat to step in for him?

The Bounty Hunter always wants that smoke, he wants that smoke more than a 100 a pack a day man who hasn't had a smoke in a month. Born wanting smoke. How can you not respect that?

I’ve always been a fan of Michael Hunter, ever since he was the first man to give Usyk a real fight in the pro ranks.

Gifted fighter, just like his father. Will cause trouble at Heavy, especially if he gets the right bouts.

Good interview with the Bounty Hunter who CST and I have long been telling you all is America's best HW

    Subjects he touches on

    Being ducked by Dillian Whyte

His near Brit Level punch resistance

Why British fans are the best in the world and why the tiny island of Great Britain dominates world boxing and produces the fiercest warriors in the world

What makes him such an effective and formidable HW

    Thoughts on Povetkin vs Whyte

    Usyk vs Chisora

    Fury vs Bootleg D II

Bootleg D's power (who he has sparred) and how it compares to some of the other HWs he's shared a ring with

On a potential fight between him and Fury

256lb Carlos Takam who was on his way to sparking out AJ prior to the ref waving the fight off for nothing at all to save AJ's bacon fought Fabio Maldonado last weekend, like Oscar Rivas and Oleksandr Teslenko he laboured to a 10 round UD. That's the same Fabio Maldonado who CW Level Hunter dropped multiple times and blew through with ease in 2 rounds. Takam said Maldonado was a very tough guy and that he just wouldn't go down.

I agree that he is definitely the best American heavyweight but he doesn’t have the comparable opponents to challenge himself at national level, and he didn’t manage his fight with Povetkin aswell as he should have, he is blowing smoke up the uk fans back passage, because he knows it’s his only avenue into ppv and title shots, I don’t think it was a clear begging he was doing but I don’t think he realises how much he is respected here and how much his honesty and dedication is valued with the uk fans, his problem is he is in a similar position as Dillian Whyte has been in, big risk small reward. Ok I know it’s not really the same but they are both avoided, it’s a difficult position American heavyweights find themselves in right now, there just isn’t the talent pool to make the fights to bring them into the spot light and then there’s the Deontay situation, it’s not just that there’s not the fights against domestic heavyweights, it’s that there isn’t the US based heavyweights there either. Michael Hunter may or may not be a heavyweight champion but if he is he will be a good champion and a respectable champion, he is one of the rare American fighters who think before they speak and want to have an impact on the sport aswell as on their bank accounts, him and sims jr are the two that comes to mind
