Main event of the boxing portion of a Triller internet PPV tomorrow night on fite.tv; but not the main event of the overall, well, event (that will in fact be a rap battle pitting NYC groups Dipset and The Lox against each other in a contest of bars & flow rather than feints & blows). The vacant WBA heavyweight Continental Americas title will be on the line.

Both men come in with just a single professional defeat, and coincidentally in either case to East Slavs that recently had ATG campaigns at cruiserweight. Hunter lose a UD challenging Oleksandr "The Cat" Usyk of Ukraine in 2017, and Wilson suffered the same fate at the hands of Denis "The White Swan" Lebedev of Russia the following year.

Hunter otherwise has an edge in quality opposition faced, and the higher KO percentage. Wilson at 6'3" has a one-inch height advantage.

This fight sucks. Wilson is a total can crusher with zero power and mediocre skills, Hunter should walk right through him. Disappointed with how Hunter has been acting lately, the Hrgovic fight would have been great, but it looks like the bounty hunter opted to not chase a high risk fugitive, who if captured would have brought him fame and riches beyond his wildest dreams.

Washed up Lebedev won this fight very lopsidedly, that should say it all. Garbage fight.

Pointless fight. The bounty hunter has turned into the bum hunter. Seems to have lost all ambition.

Yeah I feel the same. As soon as he left Matchroom the quality of his opposition has fallen off a cliff. I was surprised he ducked Hrgovic given he had previously taken on Bakole, Ustinov, Kuzmin and Povetkin. He didn't seem the type to shy away from a tough fight, I wonder what changed it can't just be leaving Matchroom there has to be more to it than that.

With Charr, Bryan, Dubois at the top of the WBA ratings, Hunter and Wilson fighting in a WBA eliminator, Dubois defending his "interim" Heavyweight title against Cusumano, Mike Coffie (loser Saturday night to a complete journeyman) sitting at #9, and someone named Zhan Kossobutskiey rated along with Wilson (and No Wilder, Joyce, Hrgovic in the top 15) the WBA TRULY lives in an alternate universe.

    Truly. (LOL)

That said, Hunter and Wilson have fought before -- 14 years ago - in the US National championships.

At the time, BOTH were Super Heavyweights - which, don't get me started on Super Heavyweight amateurs who dry out so they can fight at cruiserweight as pros. Regardless, that strategy didn't work for either of these guys.

Anyway, the result of their amateur meeting (when the results were determined by counting scoring blows) was a razor-thin 25-24 points win by Hunter.

So, it was close 'then.' But 14 years was a long time ago.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Super-heavyweight Mike Wilson failed in his bid to reclaim the national championship a year after his title was taken away after testing positive for marijuana.

The 24-year-old from Central Point, Ore., was beaten 25-24 on Friday night by up-and-comer Michael Hunter, an 18-year-old from Las Vegas.

Wilson had won the previous three titles although his 2006 championship was taken away and USA Boxing recognized Jonte Willis as the champion.

Wilson said he was seeking atonement and he almost got it in the final fight of the night at the Antlers Hilton Hotel ballroom. But his bid to become the first fighter to have his hand raised at the end of a national title bout four consecutive years fell short.

Wilson and Hunter were similar 210-pounders who fought with finesse and movement unusual in this division. Hunter was fresher, however. He trained in the Rockies for a month to acclimate himself to the altitude and his stamina showed as he rallied from a 15-7 deficit midway through the four-round bout.

Hunter, who advanced automatically to the quarterfinals after winning the Police Athletic League title, had just two fights before this one while Wilson had to beat the 2005 Golden Gloves champ, the 2006 Golden Gloves champ and the defending Armed Services champ on his way to the title bout.

"I take nothing from him, but I had to fight five times and all the tough guys were in my bracket," Wilson said.

Hunter trailed 19-18 heading into the fourth round, but a right punch bloodied Wilson's nose and staggered the former champion. Wilson said he wasn't hurt but couldn't rally.

"It's been a long week and it just wasn't there tonight," said Wilson, who still hopes to earn a spot on the Olympic team in August. "I knew it from the start. I was sluggish. My legs and my quickness weren't there."

Hunter dedicated his win to his late father, Mike "The Bounty" Hunter, a former pro boxer who died last year. Hunter sported a T-shirt after the fight that had a photo of his father and the words, "Making that man proud."

"I'm trying to follow in his footsteps," Hunter said. "When I was down 15-7, my coach said, 'Do it for him.' And I did."

Boy, this site was filled with Michael Hunter fans not so long ago. (LOL) You can hear the crickets chirping.

Shaun Laughery and Mike Wilson, back-to-back. Going for one of the FIVE WBA Heavyweight title belts, apparently. (LOL) Or maybe they'll just create a sixth WBA title belt just for him.

No, this is for a regional strap, not anything billed as being a 'world championship', just to clarify. Unless you mean he's jockeying to sneak his way up the WBA rankings to challenge Joshua or Bryan or Helenius or Charr (realistically any of the latter three) in which case...yeah. :ohno

In the card's tertiary match-up, Chris Algieri makes his return to action for the first time in 26 months, facing Mikkel LesPierre.

    It's a WBA Elimination Bout.

So I wonder if it is an eliminator for Charr, Helenius, Bryan, Dubois or Joshua?

Why on earth does Joshua continue to represent this organization? In all seriousness. Why?

I hope Wilson wins and they name him Joshua's next mando. That would put a nice bow on all of this nonsense. (LOL)

Didn't Hunter say he refuse to fight Hrgovic because he had something better in mind? So Wilson is the guy? Lmfao.

He's not a Bounty Hunter, he's hunting ducks. Pathetic.

No, we just misunderstood him is all. He isn't hunting bounties - as in, dangerous outlaws nobody else wants to wrangle. He is hunting Bounty. As in, the brand of paper towels. He's gonna round up every roll. We're gonna be set for the BBQ!
