Ali lost to a much smaller and visually impaired man in Frazier so he can't have been THAT special.

In just over 14 years, only three fighters have won heavyweight title fights while weighing under 227 lbs: Haye, Wilder and Usyk. This tells me that if you're a lighter heavyweight (by today's standards: the two cruisers have similar dimensions to 70's Foreman) you have to be a speed demon and 2/3 had massive power. In the case of the two cruisers, Haye was unified with 3 belts, Usyk was undisputed with 4 belts. Hunter was never a cruiser champ, he doesn't have a lot of power and got battered by Usyk. He's doing nothing at HW and neither is Gassiev, who while better than Hunter is flat-footed and stubby.

Motivation will be a big factor

If these guys think they're being hard done by a promoter, their heads drop and they don't put the same work in anymore.

Talent is only a small factor.
