After stopping Ustinov with an 11-day camp 6 days ago, 5 weeks after stopping Bakole, can Michael 'The Heavyweight' Hunter take down Takam on 3 weeks notice after being offered the fight from Hearn? If he takes this fight on such short notice, its a tough ask, but regardless, Michael Hunter is the freaking man from now on.
That would be 3 fights within 2 months, that's not exactly ideal but it's a good opportunity. Though it's a far tougher fight than than his last 2 opponents. If he wins he immediately jumps up to the level where he's seen as a fringe contender, but it's an awfully tough fight to take on short notice. I'd have to favour Takam if it happens as it wouldn't be ideal preparation for Hunter. Hope it happens though could be a cracking fight for the undercard that would help warm the crowd up for what should be an awesome headliner.
Hunter has balls of steel and he'd definitely take it if he had a little more time between his last fight and this one. That said, it'll be perfectly understandable if he doesn't.
Should change it to Michael 'The Heavyweight' Hunter. Since his lost to Usyk, he's stepping up his level of competition considerably every fight and taking every opportunity that comes his way. I agree with Bomber and Serge, it's a tough tough fight to take on a fighter like Takam on short notice and completely understandable if he doesn't, but if he does, win or lose, the man has my ultimate respect for the way he goes about his business. It's virtually impossible not to be a fan of Michael Hunter. Hunter and Miller are bringing the heat.
good fight, i want to see hunter vs one of the medium sized heavies like a jennings or takam to see how he fairs against the big and athletic guys like joshua, fury and to and extent wilder (not quite as heavy but tall)
Bloody hell. I was kind of half-joking when I said I wanted to see Hunter go again this year. Takam is a different style to those big guys Hunter has out-boxed & out-hustled so they may want a proper preparation for him. They could leverage off the Bakole preparation for Ustinov but Takam is a different kettle of fish. In saying that, when you're hot, you're hot. What a way to finish the year if he took that fight & won. Very well matched fight but two careers heading in opposite directions.
Hunter definitely wants this fight, trying to leverage more money or to have the fight pushed back until January. Hunter vs Takam on Miller vs TBA would be a good card for New York too.
Hunter barely broke a sweat vs "The Human Glacier" Ustinov. He's got skills, and a good trainer in Rahman. I hope he gets some good fights and this is one of them.
Having ruminated over it during the course of the day, I think Hunter should take the fight. Takam is the right opponent for Hunter next up. If Hunter passes, Takam will get another dance partner for 22 Dec & may not be available thereafter. Fight him, beat him & have a good rest over Christmas & New Year. It will be a high profile fight on a high profile promotion. It complements the main event which is an all-British affair in that it's a high quality international contest. Many people around the world will have finished work for the year & will tune in to watch. He won't need to worry about home cooking either. Great opportunity for Hunter to put his name front & centre of the h/w division fighting on the world stage.
