Sums up boxing and yes, it's a rubbish fight, but if you get offered to fight Hrgovic or Wilson for an eliminator, of course you're gonna choose Wilson haha, it's a no brainer.
I'm curious about the offer Hunter received as if it was $100k or so then he is probably right to hold off for a bigger fight. He went toe to toe and lost(in my opinion) vs a great fighter in Pre-Covid Povetkin and honestly without a promoter he is in a terrible position to be exploited. Hopefully he can gain the respect of others after this but I'm wondering if this is more a gesture to build up Hrgovic.
for his end of the purse split he was going to get bout 350k for fighting hrgovic, I’m not making excuses for him but maybe he didn’t see that as enough for such a risky fight but at time I thought well he’s only thinking bout the short money cause if he won and became mandatory for aj or fury he would of ended up getting **** loads more even if they vacated a world title fight is going to get you some serious cheddar. but with this being a wba eliminator he’s gone for the path of least resistance to getting a possible future title fight.
Will any prospect or ranked name trust Hunter again? I reckon he's cut himself adrift as an option for relevant fights.
It would be a tempting offer but it seems he is knowingly the B-Side on that one. Thanks for answering. Honestly some fighters get a lot of grief but they step up to the plate as B-Side fighters and give everything they can when often at short notice so I don't blame people for being sour on Hunter but it's his life. If he gets a good streak of wins hopefully he can get the payday he thinks he is worth.
To be fair without a promoter he's pretty much at the whims of others no matter what. I can't see this status changing apart from maybe with the Sauerlands who may not wish to work with him again.
This is setting up an exciting series of fights! Bermaine Stiverne, the winner of Lovejoy/Charr, all leading to the big time: Trevor Bryan. If he can pull it off, we'll have a new HW king on the island of misfit toys.
Mike Wilson is a cruiserweight who was beaten up by a faded Lebedev, is age 38, and has been inactive for two years. He's never had single win over a top 100 cruiserweight! Michael Hunter is a disgrace.
Wilson was actually quite a good amateur but his pro career has been a massive disappointment, Hunter's career is edging towards becoming quite the disappointment too.
