What happened to him? Seemed to disappear off the map after losing an IBF title shot to the excellent Steve Molitor, his only defeat I believe. Last boxed in February against the tough and awkward journeyman Youssef El Hamidi, winning via a close points win. Has he retired? Anybody know what he's up to? Thoughts and opinions on him as a fighter?
Pretty average really, isn't he? His weight was up against Hamidi too, I'm not sure what division he's planning on coming back to. In Britain he's got Munroe to aim for, I wouldn't like his chances there. Matthew Marsh looks an okay little fighter too. Pickering still hanging around.
Apparently he is fighting again before Christmas,he is back at Super-Bantam,i wish him all the best, but like you say,Munroe and Marsh might have too much for him.
I always thought Hunter was alright but the way he gave up against Molitor was unforgivable (if a lad wants to have a real go at being a top level fighter) for me. Watch from 2:00. Don't tell me he couldn't have got back up. He was fighting for a world title and he shook his head and let the count beat him. It's not like he was sparked. He just showed a lack of heart there in my opinion. I don't know how well he is likely to do in the grand scheme of things coming back. I can't see him even getting the EBU back off Pickering
I think you are being very harsh on Hunter. Michael admitted the shot really hurt him. Munroe and not Pickering is the current Euro champ.
Hunter would wipe the ring with Marsh pretty easily even now. Give him one or two fights to clear the ring rust and he should be looking good again, Pickering is just about shot. I do not think Hunter will be able to regain his Euro belt from Munroe or think he could beat Dunne but he still has plenty of fight and enough talent to get his career back on track and fight well for domestic titles.
Oopps I meant Munroe not Pickering. Pickering is a spent force. Don't get the hype about Marsh at all though. I think you're right, though, he'll have to stick to the british scene for his titles from now on.
Pickering is spent Marsh is overrated If Hunter got active and in form, he would give Munroe a very good fight, or Dunne. If I were Maloney, I would pursue either Marsh, Dunne or Hunter - in that order possibly.
That's two people that have said Marsh is overrated now. By whom? He's got pillows for fists and isn't exactly skilled or blessed in any one department. He's solid at best, and probably won't last long even in this weak British division.
Good point I suppose. Sky seem to rate him, but Sky rate everyone who fights on their network, from Ricky Hatton to some 'tough' bum with a record of 12 (0) - 89 (63) - 7. They might even think that Delroy Spencer is a good fighter!
I think hes peaked, he had a good one over pickering in which he showed a lot of heart however he disapointed against molitor, i think he might win the british title but thats about it.
Molitor would beat all at 122 with the exception of Vasquez and Marquez - if they have anything left. He schools Ponce de Leon, and would beat Lopez as well. Don't even mention Caballero. Criticising Hunter for this defeat is rather harsh!
no one is criticising the defeat, just the manner of the defeat, they way he could of beat the count but decided to stay down.
