Is Michael Jennings better off facing Cotto than Williams, or would he have had a better shot against Williams? :bbb
I really feel he has a shot against Cotto ( while remaining a big underdog ) Williams however is a f**kin monster , although Quintana showed he can be outboxed Williams is taller than Jennings so you would think robs Michael of his jab (the key to beating Cotto imo)
We don't know how Cotto will react to his first loss.. he could look like **** (a bit like Hatton) or he could come out and blow him out of the water. Its either a scrappy fight or a one where Cotto dismantles him easy. Better chance against Cotto than Williams
Interesting answers, I really don't know because I haven't seen Jennings fight but I am curious of what people think of him and his chances against the guys he would need to face the get a hold of a world title.
He's good fighter don't get me wrong.. at domestic/euro level. Hes tough and won't go down without a fight unlike Gary 'take a knee' Lockett. Should be a test for the first few rounds or so and I see Cotto taking the pressure up and winning by KO around the 8th
I really do fancy Jennings for this , dont get me wrong I really rate Cotto and Cotto is the better fighter , but the better fighter doesn't always win ! I can see why they have picked a guy with limited power for his first fight back , but they have also picked a tall , skilled , composed and uber fit fighter for his first fight back and I think it may bite him on the arse.
Nice, thanks for the info :good So far I've read from Cotto that he's not taking Jennings lighlty and that his style reminds him a bit of Gianluca Branco and Urkal, stuff he's seen before.
Thats not far off to be honest ( Jennings is taller than those two though ) In all honesty if Cotto is as good as he was before he should catch up with Michael eventually and get to him but if he is a little gun shy then ...............................:think
I'm going to argue that taking on Williams is the safer bet. Most fighters after losing big (Cotto to Margarito) get the wind taken out of their sails. Especially the way that Margarito messed him up. Now, because of recent events Cotto potentially lost to a cheater. This should infuriate Cotto to know he was beaten by a guy that used an unfair advantage, and give him that fire back. It's one of those reassuring feelings. Also, I've been watching Jennings fights recently. He's got a good chin, decent hand speed, and the ability to throw decent combos. Against Cotto? Er...uh...I'd like to have faith in the underdog (which is usually my stance) but I can't give it to Jennings. He might make a better impression then Gary Lockett did against Kelly Pavlik, but I see an excellent fight coming from Cotto. He's (Jennings) in an absolute 'no win' situation. Jennings against Williams could end up being a boring affair. Williams has been making his mark, but he's a man (silently) looking for big money fights. When Williams is in the spotlight he seems to look incredible, and he works to his advantage. When he's doing work he gets a routine going. Now, granted his routine works, when he's obviously overmatched his opponent. Williams showed a lack of interest in the Quintana fight, only to prove himself a match later. If you're an unknown fighter with as much skill and heart as Quintana, you might have a chance against Williams. Now, say you were a hot prospect ready to get into a good scrap, I'd say Williams would take less of a chance in sparing the length of the fight. Both men would beat Jennings, but Williams would be the path of least resistance right now. Only because of the current events, I don't think anybody should be in Cotto's way right now. It would be murder.
Man its amazing who well known Jennings is in the US , all these guys know all about him. I didnt realise he was such a big name
