just rewatched this fight... obviously it was a come back fight and he was rusty but cotto seemed lost, he was chasing jennings around and reaching instead of cutting the ring off, his straight rights looked weird with not much energy behind it. jennings isnt in the league of quintana or possibly even gomez and cotto absolutely destroyed those guys.
He absolutely destroyed Jennings aswell. But he didn't look as impressive as he should to a degree but you would expect that all things considered.
he stopped jennings but didn't destroy him, quintana lmost went out on a stretcher and gomez was being thrown around like a rag doll.
IMO he destroyed him just as much as he did with Gomez for example. Jennings was never in the fight, was backpedalling and was beaten up.
You nutter, Michael Jennings is a fantastic fighter. Of course im not saying hes as good as the names normally thrown around here but jennings is a highly HIGHLY underrated fighter. With only two losses from 34 fights and one of them was cotto. As you can see in the fight everyone was extra analysing Cottos performence to see if marg had left a mark and he came up against Jennings. An unknown Brit who technically isnt very far away from the elite at all but so dangerously underrated. Cotto was always going to win, but just not as easy as everyone thought.
He didnt respect him and acted like it in my opinion when he should have been getting his skills up not getting hit working on foot movement no need to go in there and try to blast the guy if you can make a sparring session
It was not a bad peformance considering Cotto stopped him. Jennings did nothin in the fight but backpeddle. Cotto did was he was suppose to do that night.
Cotto is losing his fights at the gym. And if there are not changes he will lose the next one too. I just wonder if he cares. I think he is only cashing out on his fame and will be retiring soon, but who knows....
Bear in mind that when u watch Jennings in that fight that he was petrified. He was scared stiff of Cotto and backpeddled for the first four rounds. Until he landed a few good shots and then became more confident and tried to engage with Cotto. And needless to say cotto stopped him. I think Michael's biggest mistake that night was turning up.
Jennings spent that fight running, if he stepped forward he would've got sparked out in the first round!
