Michael Katsidis Retires

I don't think anyone is downplaying how exciting he was, but I do think some people, rightly or wrongly, get bothered when people conflate being exciting fighters with being great boxers and they don't let it slide.

I think that is what happened late in this thread.

Based on the reports coming out, it doesn't seem like whatever Kat will be telling us is gonna be good.

Forget brain damage, it sounds like they found something more serious. It seems like they're hinting at a brain tumor.

He was not an elite fighter and he struggled against tough gatekeepers like Manfredy and Ward.

Lets not forget the losses to Ivan Robinson.

 

great fighter who brought it every time, did he never win a title? if so that is a shame as he is much better than many who did.

 

How can you say that when they actually accomplished something?
See this is what gets me, respect his accomplishments without trying to **** on anyone else.

I'm glad he laid hands on JMM to let the world know that JMM aint no superman, that can never be taken away from him

 

I'm glad to hear Katsidis is retiring. The guy gave his all in the ring. Boxing is built on these types of fighters. Men who win more by virtue of will than skill.

He had so many great fights and I'm glad we don't have to watch the faded warrior take any more abuse.

I was hoping he would call it a day sometime soon, it wasnt nice to see him taking beating after beating, the guerrero one was particularly nasty. I am a big fan and always will be. We travelled from ireland to vegas for the jmm fight. the week before we heard of his brothers passing and assumed the fight would be off but michael bravely went ahead. Il always respect him for that and his performance that night.

 

Angel Manfredy and Ward are gatekeepers, Gatti struggled and lost to both. Ivan Johnson is about as middling as can be, Gatti lost to him twice.

He was a low level fighter. Exciting as hell, but limited, extremely limited.

Same can be said of Katsidis.
