Great fight but a bit one sided if I remember rightly, but Earl would always comeback with a flurry to keep you on the edge of your seat.
One if my favorite lightweight fights. Katsidis was always an action fighter. They had a rematch years later while both past it,wasnt as good.
Michael Katsidis v Graham Earl I heard about this being a real barnburner so was surprised by how much of a beatdown it actually was. Earl had his moments, including the flash knockdown he scored moments after being down himself and the towel being thrown in (ignored by Mickey Vann, who officiated in a, let's call it 'curious' rather than 'biased' way). But Earl was clearly outgunned and shipping serious punishment from the opening bell. Vann seemed to break the action whenever Katsidis was on top for some supposed infraction by the Australian but it just came across as home support for Earl, whose corner were probably right to throw the towel in when they did initially but did the right thing after the fifth. 1 10-7 2 10-9 (crazy round) 3 10-9 4 10-9 5 10-9
That was my reaction to it mate when i rewatched it, i thought it was pretty much one way traffic. Except for a few moments when Earl would throw the odd combination to keep himself in it. But when you watched it live like i did, and i was little kid when i see it. The fight was really on the edge of your seat stuff. Because everytime Earl looked gone, he would comeback with a flurry to stop Katsidis in his tracks, and you felt like maybe he might be able to pull off the miracle. I feel like it's one of the those fights that's better when you watched it live, rather than watching it when you already know the result. Kind of like Hagler vs Hearns i guess in that regard.
Yes great analysis sir, it's regarded as one of the best live fights knowing the outcome its a bit different it's still exciting to watch just due to the sheer volume of punches. There were a couple I watched that were edge of your seat last year Ted Cheeseman Vs Troy Williamson and Michael Conlan Vs Leigh Wood live were mad.
