When you look at it as a whole, yeah, Burns looks like the very clear winner, but it is scored on a round by round basis. And the rounds Katsidis did win, Burns was sitting on the ropes not doing anything. Throwing the odd punch every now and again, while Katsidis was pressing the action. What was your score, BTW?

Maybe, yeah. It depends on how much Smith looks to engage IMO.

If he is stupid enough to bang it could go poorly for him, getting possibly dropped/stopped/widely out-pointed. If he's his usual self he could frustrate Groves a bit (but still probably lose on points).

I don't see how anyone can say the fight was a theft, so many rounds could have swung either way that a wide win for one person wouldn't have been a theft and could have gone the other way.

If you are a Katsidis fan you should be disappointed in him for not learning and improving in his craft since he started. There is no place for him at 135 except as a semi-named scalp. He will never challenge for a title because he is terrible and unskilled. The fact that the fight could have gone either way with Burns tells me that Burns is on the same level as Kats, which is club fighter.

So,you've answered your own question. If Burns was inactive during the rounds he lost, that has no bearing on the fight as a whole.

    Thought Kats was the favorite?

We had the same score at the end of the day (7-5 Burns). Always nice to get into this "I'm right, your wrong" discussions IB. :conf

The bold is quite a slippery slope and actually not true in a legal sense (The Queens-berry rules don't say you can hold, wrestle, and grab only if not overdone. The question there would be what is overdoing it?). And in the way to which Burns did it is practically illegal in my eyes, thus I penalized him for just leaning on and grabbing forward on to Kats merely to hamper his activity and ability to punch.

    Round 1

Groves jabs Smith in the face and takes a short hop backward, his stance never changing with his legs kept evenly spaced apart at just beyond shoulder width and his body turned at the same angle consistently. Lots of jabs from Groves, mostly getting between Smith's gloves. Smith kicks his legs back and bunny hops to one side. Lunging 1-2 by Smith. Groves keeps firing the straight jab up high. Smith swings in with a wide right and Groves ducks in to grab. Smith feints with both hands. Groves drops a jab to the body and then doubles it upstairs. Groves is fighting almost exclusively with his left. Smith comes forward and swats at the body with a jab. Groves hooks but gets gummed up with Smith's arms in the way as Smith ducks behind them. Jab by Groves. Double jab by Groves. Smith stands in front of him, not doing anything. 1-2 by Groves. Tie up. Left hook, right hand by Groves blocked. Big long combo by Smith, blocked. Jabs by Groves. BIG RIGHT HAND BY SMITH!!!!! ON THE BUTTON!!! Best punch of the round.

    10-9 Groves

Smith looks good and has shaken Groves up with his hooks, Groves is using the jab but it's weak and not holding Smith off. Problem is Groves is gonna have to make Smith respect him, and didn't do that in the first round and unless he does that in the next two rounds it's gonna be a hard fight. Can see it being very close.
