One of my personal favorite fighters, and one who never really got the credit he deserved, I think. His win against Holyfield was tarnished by Holyfield's health issues that came out after the fight... Foreman got lucky in catching him after being dominated, and so on. He's got more than a few solid wins under his belt, including probably the best slugfest of the 90's against Cooper. Since late 2006 he's fought four times, two of those fights being first round KO's. And he's still "only" 40. As of his last fight he was at 235 pounds, the lightest he's been in four years. Can he accomplish anything?
not much hope. I think he will be knocked out by an Eastern European fighter looking for a big name and will take a big pay day in Germany if he is on the comeback trail.
I would have to go back and rescore the first fight with Holyfield to say for sure who I think the winner was. I remember being disappointed in the score when I watched it happen, but it was a close fight. About the only thing I see Moorer being capable of is getting a rubber match with Evander, and possibly getting the win. They're both older, and I don't know that Evander is any more shot than Michael so I'm not making a prediction. I'm just saying that is the highest mark I believe the future could hold for him. I really would like to see him fight James Toney now that I think of it. It would mean nothing more than entertainment. But let's be honest, isn't that why most of us watch boxing?
His last fight has reflected badly on his comeback. He was doing fine, working hard at the gym to get himself into much better shape (like you say, down to 235) and looking decent in the ring with two quick 1st round stoppages and a total outboxing of old trialhorse Sedreck Fields. But that split win over Willis, especially with the sight of Moorer getting knocked down just after the final bell, has hurt his comeback. Up to that point I felt some interest amongst the ESB members but most of them have written him off now. I still think the Willis fight may have given a false impression. Not saying Moorer is great or anything, but I certainly don't think he's near as shot as some of the real bad cases like Bowe. A rubber match with Holyfield would be a decent earner, although I think Moorer's durability would let him down (and he hasn't got the speed and footwork to do what he did in '94). I think there are still opportunities out there for him, so I haven't 100% given up on him like some others. Just don't fight Tua, natch As for Tua and Moorer swapping ranking places, well hey - it's not 2002 anymore. Can't keep the ratings standing still 5 years later.
He might win a few fights against middle of the road opposition, but I wouldn't give him much of a chance to go beyond that. He's 40 years, and on the comeback trail for at least the second time in his career now. He never had a parrticularly great chin even in his prime, and his power was never spectacular at the heavyweight ranks. My guess is that he runs into a prospect within the next year or two who ends his career.
well it wasnt cause moorer was bad, it was willis who was the one who looked good not the other way round. i hope he would just say to himself he won the fight. he has a good defence good combo's, vetrancy and one shot power. i am saying he can win a title....but miraculas i feel
