I am a southpaw... I refuse to change..... Go with what works best for you... I respect dudes like Hector Camacho and Pernell Whitaker remaining true to form.....

Converted southpaws generally become "One Armed" fighters..... They end up with a good left jab and hook, with a GIMPY right hand....... "Cooney & Virgil Hill" are prime examples...... Even Razor Ruddock's right hand was gay compared to his left smash....

Michael Moorer was probably the best two-fisted power-punching southpaw that I have ever seen.... Of course I am talking about the pre 1997 version of Moorer..........

    Yes he was.

I guess he just converted himself back when he needed to.

Well, boxing has changed dramatically in the way BIDNESS is conducted these days compared to yesterday.... Back in the good ole days, a southpaw couldn't get a fight... The fighter and manager in the opposite corner simply just wasn't interested in fighting a southpaw.... SO! The damn lefty had to change-up and appear orthodox to obtain fights....... The game is still played to a degree these days, but southpaws seemingly can get fights more so than ever before......... Cheers......

Some of the smarter southpaws developed into switch hitters so they did not get labeled as southpaws but could still deploy the style.

Tiger Flowers is a case in point.

Yes. I believe Michael Moorer is a natural righty who fought southpaw because it just felt more comfortable for him.

Well, once the fight is on, you can change-up if you like..... I sure as hell would.........

Marvin Hagler in my book was the last of the classic switch-hitters..... Hagler was smooth in his prime.............

Livy Bramble liked to claim he could also switch-up in the middle of a fight, but his skill level was ordinary at best......

Ive heard the theory bandied around that a lot of lefties were converted so they could use their power hand more by utilising it as a jab and also by fighting orthodox it brought the power hand closer to an opponent. Ive heard that was one reason De la Hoya fought orthodox and used the left hook as abundantly as he did

I remember Larry Merchant once waxing lyrical that perhaps Moorer would herald in a new era of boxing, where you'd lead with your dominant hand.

Then Moorer gets clobbered by Foreman, and that flies out the window.

for many years it was considered a " sissy" type thing to be left handed .. i've read in kurt cobains book that his dad and teachers used to berate him for useing his left hand ..

i've heard other places that being lefty was a bad thing considered to be less manly
