Moorer clearly lost his desire after that Foreman loss, he looked uninterested and not sharp at all against Holyfield in the rematch, put on weight, he was nowhere near the same fighter after the Foreman fight, he was just fighting for the money after that, you could see it, he’s even done interviews post retirement saying he doesn’t have much money, so I assume in that Tua fight, he was just fighting for a paycheck considering his performances before that since the Foreman fight.
Could the lighter, sharper and focused Moorer from the Holyfield 1 fight take Tua?

I definitely think he would outbox Tua, and Michael could probably hurt him, too.

A lot of people will think you are crazy for picking Moorer but i think it is a 50-50 fight. Moorer was a shell when he fought Tua. His chin had diminished greatly after the stoppages vs Foreman and Holyfield 2. The more damage you take the lower your punch resistance becomes. Moorer was overweight and unmotivated.

A younger Moorer would still not fancy being hit cleanly but his punch resistance was better.

50-50. Mooer outboxes him to win a decision or Tua stops him late.

Moorer could outbox a lot of guys, but big punchers like Tua and Foreman had to only get lucky once with a big flush shot and it was good night. So yeah, Moorer could beat Tua. He could also beat Foreman. But he also might not.

I agree with this only that I don't think Moorer can hurt Tua.

Yeah but you could say that about any heavyweight. Moorer gets a bad wrap for being chimney but the reality is he was only knocked out by Foreman and Tua. Foreman is for sure in the top three heaviest punchers ever and Tua isn't far behind.

I think Moorer had better whiskers than a lot of folks. He certainly had balls and heart as he showed in the Cooper and 2nd Holyfield fight.

50-50 is how I see it too. Tua looked God awful in so many battles when someone made him think, but he did carry his power late & wouldn’t really fear the incoming, meaning Moorer has to be perfect. Tua was poor enough that this is pretty feasible. It’s a coin toss, for mine.

Probably fair but the fact is Tua proved he could blow him away quickly, & that’s who his opponent is again here.

Moorer hurt guys with chins nearly as good as or better than Tua- While uninspired he had Holyfield on deer legs and shook up Foreman multiple times.

Moorer probably does better than he did in their actual meeting, but it’s hard to envision him taking it. When I look at how a prime Moorer nearly got sparked by Bert cooper and KO’d by an old Foreman it doesn’t make me want to favor him against David Tua

The version of Moorer who met Tua was seven to eight years past his peak and a shadow of himself - both physically and psychologically.

Against a Moorer in his prime, Tua has the same puncher's chance he always has, but would this time be facing a more capable and considerably greater talent than himself.

    Peak Moorer UDs Tua.

Moorer was the better heavyweight, but his style doesn't make him suitable for a fight with an opponent like Tua. Too static, too close, too slow on his feet, even in his prime. And not the best chin. It's 50-50 for me, but I'd go with the one I consider generally worse—Tua. Especially the young David, before his fights with Ike and later Rahman, Lewis, and Byrd.

As much as I like Moorer he was floored by Everett Martin, Bert Cooper, staggered badly by Alex Stewart and hurt at light-heavy by Frankie Swindell in their 1st bout before getting off the floor to beat Holyfield.

Sooner or later Tua will land his bombs. Tua was a brilliant finisher so my money is on him.

Moorer will be there to get hit at some point and when that happens it’s lights out. Yes Moorer was well past his prime but it could be argued Tua was as well. The fact that he was brutally KO’d in 30 seconds doesn’t give me any confidence Moorer would do much better in his prime.
