Some similarities to be noticed among the differences. Both were six feet two inches tall with comparable reaches... A drained Moorer fought at 175 pounds and became a champion before he skipped cruiser to become a heavyweight. Young fought as low as 185 pounds before putting on weight as his career progressed and his dedication lapsed. I've sometimes wondered what a lean Jimmy Young would have looked like. Both were visibly out of shape around 220 pounds for Young, perhaps a little higher for Moorer who came in as heavy as 250! They had night and say styles and even stances but both were accused of coming in too heavy, being out of shape, not taking their careers seriously and in general lacking the appropriate fire in times of need. Both were capable of cruising in a very frustrating matter when it mattered the most. Moorer had 57 career bouts and would go 54-2-1. Young would have 56 and go 35-18-3. How do things go if they were to fight one another's careers exactly?
Young would beat the under par version of Holyfield and beat Big George in 1994 but he might do worse overall against B and C class opposition because Young could be inconsistent. Moorer gets flattened by Foreman even against 1977 version, he doesn't beat Norton, debatable he beats Lyle, and he'd get flattened by Shavers if he fought Shavers early in his career like Young did. Moorer would probably lose to even the out of shape version of Ali because I can't see Moorer winning a decision as the judges would favour Ali in a competitive fight. But Moorer would be more aggressive than Young so maybe he might be able to eek out a decision who knows. Overall I think Young would have a better record than Moorer against their best opposition because Young wouldn't lose to old Foreman. But Young might pick up more losses overall because he could be inconsistent as I said. I think overall Moorer would have a worse record than Young did in the 70s against their best opposition but Moorer would take less losses against the likes of Neumann, Ocasio, because I can't see Moorer losing to those guys.
Both do worse. In the 90s, guys who weren’t stars had to win fight after fight to get the next one. Sucks for Jimmy. And Moorer wouldn’t have been fighting a medically unfit Holyfield, ancient Foreman, and extremely crappy line up of challengers.
