Pretty good fight. So much depends on which guy shows up in good boxing shape and well conditioned. Both guys added weight in their careers and lost their mobility by adding the pounds.

Dokes had long since stopped using his legs by the time he met Weaver. Early in his career, he flew around the ring and could punch while circling. MM was far more effective at the lighter weights and then became stationary. He no longer bent at the waist either and it changed a lot of things. He needs to be light and elusive, especially against the quick combos Dokes threw.

I can see Dokes coming in heavy and out of shape. Planning on an easy night's work & he'd probably have spent most of the payday with prefight loans from Don King. Train for about 2 weeks. He'd figure there's no way a former lh beats him so he shows up overweight & underprepared with his B game===like Coetzee and the Cobb fights. His B game is just not that good. And like most of his contemporaries, drop a decision to a guy he should beat. But I see him doing stupid things pre-fight like not even bothering to spar with southpaws. And like zero roadwork.

So MM rises to the occasion and steals a bout he shouldn't. Close decision & I think the high accuracy of the southpaw scores more points and he shades the contest. But it all boils down to one guy with his A game and the other guy bringing in his B game. And I definitely think MM is the guy with his A game, not Dokes.

Agree, I was just watching Moorer Cooper this morning, what a war. Moorer would fight so stupid at times, lanquishing on the ropes against Cooper when he had a good jab and could hook off the jab pretty good. Id lean towards Moorer in this one.

Good fight.Dokes at his best could win but often he didn't come ready to fight .if moorer doesn't get into a brawl he can win on points

Dokes by seventh round tko in a good scrap. Still had a decent chin, and of course, the infamous hands.

I think a pre-coked up Dokes stops Moorer. Dokes hand speed was exceptional and he put combos together well.

Great break down. I agree that it could boil down to which ever guy comes to win .But if it's the Dokes that beat Weaver then Moorer has a tougher time of it .

Dokes a truly talented fighter who prime was ruined by drugs and lifestyle. He did show a glimpse of his former self when he was able to get in shape and gave then rising HW Holyfield hell which was voted the HW fight of the 80's. Going on the Dokes vs Weaver rematch i see Dokes superior hand speed enables him to out box and out brawl Moorer in a war of attrition. Dokes on pts.
