He was fading when he fought Tyson. 1984 Thomas would have more successfully employed those tactics. He may have still lost but it wouldn't have been a beat down.
The one factor we don't know for sure is how Thomas would adapt to a good southpaw heavyweight. Moorer was kinda rare in that regard. Double M had a nice jab himself and a wicked right hook off of it. He hurt alot of guys with that hook. Overall Pinklon Thomas was the better heavyweight but id call this one a toss up based on that Southpaw puzzle.
I think Moorer was the better boxer. However I don't think he has the constitution to hang with Thomas till the end. If he had a better chin I'd pick him.
He had the tools to beat Mike...if it had been a couple of years earlier Mike might have settled for a decision win. But I just don't see Thomas beating him at any point in his career. If PT had been in his prime in 1990....
Pinklon Thomas was Tyson's best win. Spinks and Holmes were bigger names but from a boxing standpoint it was the Pinkster. Thomas laid the blueprint.
This is a really interesting matchup. People tend to sell Moorer a bit short because he lost his title to a 77 year old challenger.
