Michael Moorer jumped up to the heavyweight division after briefly shining as WBO Light Heavyweight Champion. Thus, this potentially great fight never happened.

While Moorer was WBO champ, Williams was the established IBF Champion.

Moorer had quite a bit of trouble with Leslie Stewart and was rocked by Frankie Swindell. Williams showed he could be hurt when he was almost stopped by Bobby Czyz, but roared back to stop Bobby and beat him again in a rematch.

They had two common opponents in Frankie Swindell and Freddie Delgado who they both stopped.

I think this would have been a war. Both guys came forward behind good jabs and followed up with good combinations.

It's really hard for me to predict the outcome. I'd say Williams experience would have seen him through to a late stoppage win.

I remember that 1989-1990 light heavy scene well.. Hill had the WBA .. Charles had the IBF. Moorer was WBO and Harding and Andries were trading the WBC back and forth.. You had former champs in Czyz and Steward on the scene. Prospects like Maynard, word and hembrick... Tough gatekeepers in grant and vedder.. It was a talented division with lots of guys in their primes...for a brief fashion it appeared to some as though we were going Into a 175 lb golden age... But it never materialized.. The big fights never happened.. Some guys either left the weight class altogether while others lingered around to rot before they ever fully flourished. Hills legacy as a future domineering force was tainted with a loss to an aging hearns.. Anthony hembrick who was one of the more recent Olympians and prospects was ruined with a first round knockout loss to booker T word and Andrew Maynard ( a protege of sugar Ray Leonard ) was derailed by bobby Czyz....

So who would have won between prince Charles Williams and Michael moorer? Well the boxing lesson that Leslie steward gave michael for 8 rounds before getting sparked might give us some insight and is certainly one of the reasons why I would have picked someone like Virgil hill to beat him at 175... But Charles had the tendency to make more mistakes, get tagged and was also more frequently hurt... He'd school and hassle moorer for a few rounds but somewhere down the line manny steward would have found a weakness and guided his man ( then nicknamed the kronk crusher ) to a knock out win..

Tough call... I'd go Williams on points in a rough fight.

I miss this era. I don't miss the alphabet organizations, but I miss the fighters and potential matchups. I wish Moorer had done more at LHW, thought I know he struggled with his weight. I also wish he had made a stop at CW, if for anything to put a name their at that time.

All that said, Moorer seemed to underachieve at times and I could see that here.
