Michael Moorer vs. Frank Bruno

Moorer wins. Bruno just doesn't have enough to win this one.

 

I picked Moorer on points but anything could happen. Bruno was very dangerous in the early rounds... at least for most fighters. A prime Bruno is 6'3" with an 82" reach and ripped even at 247 Lbs. (vs. Tyson in 1996)... he was 228 Lbs. vs. Tyson in 1989. He was big, strong, punched hard and had a good jab.

Bruno went 40-5 (38) overall and 1-4 in HW World Title fights. He beat Scott Ledoux KO3, Floyd Cummings KO7, Lucien Rodriguez KO1, Gerrie Coetzee KO1, James Tillis KO5, Reggie Gross KO8, Joe Bugner KO8, Jose Ribalta KO2, Pierre Coetzer KO8, Carl Williams KO10, Jesse Ferguson KO1, and Oliver McCall W12 among others.

He lost to James Smith LKOby10, Tim Witherspoon LKOby11, Mike Tyson x2 LKOby5 and LKOby3 (his last pro fight), and Lewis LKOby7. He fought well in all of his losses except for the Tyson rematch. He really gave Smith, Witherspoon, and especially Lewis some trouble before being stopped.

 

A great match-up and pretty damn tough to pick. Sometimes in a situation like this, I like to think about which punch is certain to land. In this case the one punch that I know can land is the Moorer jab. It was a hard, southpaw, very accurate jab, and I think it'll eventually bust up Frank's face. Moorer will stop him late or win by decision. But I wouldn't bet a ton of money on it.

The Witherspoon fight was even for eight rounds, but as the eleventh round stoppage approached, Witherspoon was in control.

The Lewis thing is, with hindsight, nearly always exaggerated. Yes Bruno was in the fight, but at best he was edging it over the first six rounds. If you believe some, Bruno was dominating before the stoppage. As someone who was there, there was little feeling that Lewis was going to lose as the fight progressed.

The general consensus was that Bruno's only chance was to land a bomb early. When the bell went for the fourth even us huge Bruno fans knew the score; it was only a matter of time...

 

Moorer went life and death with C level Botha/Schulz.......Moorer has the Ring IQ of a house mouse, eventually he will stand straight in front of Bruno duking it out like he did against the above no hopers and that what he was doing against Foreman too until he got his bell rung.......the same thing would happen against Bruno and Moorers glass would be shattered.

 

That, unfortunately is about the size of it.

 

Moorer beat the **** of Shultz easy and he was killing Botha but got rocked in the later rounds.

 

Hard fight to pick a winner and in truth either man could win on any given night. If forced to choose I'd probably go with Moorer. Frank was tough but fizzled in nearly every big fight he was ever in, with the exception of McCall who got lucky in one fight.

 

I watched the fight, Bruno wasn't outboxing Lewis, he had his moments, but Lewis was winning the fight, I used to think Bruno was outboxing Lewis, but then I watched the full fight and Lewis was winning

Bruno is another who in the social media era of the internet is starting to become slightly overrated....

The Smith fight he may have been outboxing him but they were close rounds and late on there was danger in the air rounds 8-9 ,guys like smith,spoon and tyson were dangerous late in fights wheras Frank after 8 rounds always seemed to gas...

Theres a big difference between the explosive moorer at 175 and his early hw fights like the stewart one...i actually think he was at his best at hw up to the foreman fight...after from 95 onwards he seemed bloated uninterested as in the holy 2 and tua fights..

Bruno was probably one of the beat rabbit punchers ever...but had power a jab and good body attack....

I cant see moorer causing frank the same apprehension as the 4 guys who beat him...over 10 frank by pts over 12 i think frank just nicks it

 

Moorer. He was not incredibly durable, but durable nonetheless. Moorer could get hurt and survive, Bruno couldn't. The only time he ever did that was against Floyd Cummings. Moorer by tko around 7, I'd say.
