I'll tell you something .... for some reason I've been revisiting Gerry Cooney and have been surprised ... prior to the one year layoff pre-Holmes ands the injury , he was a very good looking contender .. his body was very different, he was more muscular and toned ... he was much faster and threw combination puncher ... his fight with a still extremely good Jimmy Young if motivated ( and none of them were ever more motivated than fighting a white hope ) was a hell of a fight ... he destroyed Lyle and Norton, both older but who came to fight ... Norton had just come off a pretty impressive ten round decision in a very fast paced ten round fight w Tex Cobb. I think the Cooney of the Lyle and Norton fights was a far different fighter than the version who fought Spinks six years later and had a hell of a shot of blasting Spinks out .... Cooney would never be a dominant champ because he didn't take a great shot but styles and match up wise the man could fight.
I actually like Moorer's chances here as far as he is able to keep a focused and disciplined approach, being cautious and relying on his skills to outbox Conney all the way to a decission. Of course if Moorer gets cocky and careless as he did versus Foreman, he goes down hard.
Michael Moorer because he’s a southpaw / great jab … punches from the other side that would fukkkkkk cooney up Michael Moorer tko 8 over Gerry cooney -?
Cooney would hate Moorers straight left hand coming right down the pipe !!! The other side .. cooney never fought a southpaw !!!
This boils down to who makes the first mistake type bout. And both make mistakes so it is not easy trying to figure out which guy screws up first.
