Moorers greater experience and pedigree shows though I think.
Decked early, but ultimately finishes him off. Cooney wasn't the most durable of hombres either, basically goes similar to the Cooper and Stewart brawls imo.

I think my answer, as the one before me, may offend some, but I think chances are Moorer would get to him. He was much more talented. Gerry has the power and fast-starting ways to knock Mike out early, but I think it's very possible that Michael's defense and southpaw-ism could trouble Gerry. After a few rounds of swinging away, Gerry would tire and Moorer would tear him apart.

you think Moorer is as good as Spinks? Then that is the reason we think differently about this fight.

Moorer could box and brawl , Spinks never had to deal with Moorer's adversity . So you probably think Spinks would have made quick work of Botha , Schulz , Stewart and Jirov . Not that I rank any one of those in my top 70 heavies , and probably lower than top 90 , but after watching Spinks fights against Holmes (both) , Qawi , Cooney , Tyson and Eddie Mustaffa , I just was far from being impressed , so he didn't suck to the max , but does that make him better than Moorer ? Moorer's opposition @ heavy was just better .
Spinks' hw wins look good just on paper , until one watches the fights if one could call them that way.
Moorer never beat anyone great (some will mention holyfield , but i don't think moorer ever beat him ) , but he did know how to fight and i mean in a way that looked like he's fighting in contrary to spinks constant awkward avoiding of fighting . Even Moorer's most devastating "loss" to Tua was due to him getting hit flush while already down , so I don't consider it too much . He did legitimately go down , but not out .
His loss to Foreman is embarrassing however , and I don't have excuses for it right now .
Moorer won fights , Spinks made a career primarily based on his ability to exploit the pathetic criteria of scoring . When Moorer won a round it was often convincingly , when Spinks won a round it was based on charisma and personal charm i guess .
Spinks' 2 most important fights @ 175 were close fights and as unconvincing as one can get , even if 1 or 2 of them were not robberies .
There is a huge difference between one "win" and another.

Cooney wins a shoot out inside a round. Both get caught, before Gerry catches him with left hook and don't let him off. Gerry was a ruthless finisher.
