I like the counter punching Quarry to win this one but then a again, a sharp puncher like Moorer could open up the paper thin skin of Quarry which could alter things really quickly.

Quarry by KO. Potentially, pretty early.

On the surface It looks like Jerry Quarry. And he might well win. But Moorer’s south paw stance, quick hands and ability to go into the later rounds might make this a tricky fight for Quarry. Not 100% sold either way

I really have no favorite here. Either could be inconsistent but also on fire other nights. Either one could win by decision or stoppage. I see Michael Moorer fantasies are trendy rn.

I'd take the Moorer that beat Holyfield to beat any version of Quarry. That was a higher level than Quarry ever got to.

I might ruffle some feathers here but I have to go Jerry Quarry here. He took out a prime Thad Spencer on Feb 3 1968, TKO 12, also dropped a majority 15 round decision to Jimmy Ellis for the vacant WBA title on April 27 1968, Jerry also gave Joe Frazier a good fight on June 23 1969, before Joe stopped him in 7 rounds. And remember later Quarry stopped Earnie Shavers in the first round on Dec 14 1973. Jerry also defeated Ron Lyle by unanimous decision on Feb 9 1973. Michael Moorer defeated Evander Holyfield on April 22 1994 by majority decision to win the title, only to be kayoed by an aged George Foreman on Nov 5 1994 in the 9th round losing his title. Jerry was a very good counter puncher in his prime, he was devastating to any opponents body. He was very durable. Moorer's southpaw stance could prove to be a problem early, but solvable as Jerry's constant pressure proves to be too much for Michael to withstand. I look for Jerry to win by TKO 10.

Good post Richard, even if I don't agree about the result here. Quarry certainly was a skilled very accomplished boxer with some impressive wins. But his best opponents weren't as technical as Moorer. Moorer's advantages aren't simply he was a southpaw. He also had a tight defensive peekaboo and short sharp straight punches. I think he's faster too. And Moorer himself really had some serious power. On top of that Moorer has 2 inches in height and 6 inches in reach.

The problem with Quarry is that after a while he was quite inconsistent in regards to preparation. On the other side, a prime Moorer was taken to the edge by guys like Cooper and Botha. I would hope to think Quarry could do as well, and probably better. I really think Quarry would sting him with a hook and would put him down at least once. Mike liked to think he was Sonny Liston but Quarry would know better. I'm picking Jerry at his best.
