If Kovalev destroys Stevenson soon, he will have cleaned out the three best the division has to offer in less than 2 years.

    That would be very impressive.

Nah, Stevenson is still being looked at as having ducked Pascal and Hopkins for stylstic reasons.

Doesn't matter though, Stevenson isn't winning.

I would still pick Hopkins to beat Stevenson. And the Pascal from last week vs Stevenson would be close.

He destroyed Chad Dawson in one round, beat the **** out of Tavoris Cloud and Tony bellew, and was ranked ahead of Kovalev up until just a couple months ago. that's a lot of work in less than two years time. Ad a victory over Kovalev and mythical matchups will sprout up around here like mushrooms after a storm. I personally wouldn't favor him to beat Sergei either, but losing to him isn't a forgone conclusion. Adonis is brutal on the counters and Kovalev has the tendency to walk down fighters without any respect.. This is fine when you have yet to face anyone with any real power or ability to hurt you. Thus far Sergei's faced no one on Stevenson's level in that regard.

Moorer skipped the heavyweight division and put on 40 lbs. because cruiserweight WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO EASY FOR HIM. Think about that for a second. Would Kovalev skip Marco Huck to fight Chris Arreola because Huck was too easy?

He'll be doing it in short order. It is nothing. In fact, the best fighter by a distance in the weightclass above him is essentially the same size. And, he gives away weight every fight too ... It is not desirable but in a lousy era with pedestrian talent it makes sense to go up and find a challenge. RJJ did it before them. RJJ could have stayed at SMW and KO'd the two mediocre SMW champs a few times (until they quit or retired) after playing other sports the afternoon of the fight but he went up in weight where his greater talent would be met by at least larger men at LHW.

The differential between Ward and Golovkin is 3 lbs. And, with the eight pounds of added muscle it may turn out to be less.

So, since it is actually only 3 pounds a fight at 168 should sound fair to you ... and everyone else ...

Golovkin is very similar in size to Andre Ward.

Golovkin has been steadily moving higher fight to fight in his weight upon entering the ring ... from 168 (Proksa fight) to 170 (Macklin fight) to 173 ...

Don't have the Murray numbers but he was 173 lbs for Rubio (who came in over the middleweight limit and entered the ring at 181 lbs)

Ward was 176 lbs for Dawson (Chad came in at 185 lbs)

Golovkin is 179 cm in height (5'10.5") versus Ward at 183 cm (6'0")

    Golovkin's reach is 178 cm (70") versus Ward's at 180 cm (71")

So, GGG is putting on 13 lbs from 160 while Ward puts on 8 from 168.

173 lbs for Golovkin vs 176 lbs for Ward on fight night

As even as one could want ...

Even if Golovkin comes in lighter for a fight (say the Murray numbers come out differently), this is not a young fighter. He is not going to start a progression back to 168 or less. He is there (mature), he has no comp in such a weakass division, and he has a similarly sized talent waiting for him at '68. The competition for him is at SMW. Shocking how fanboys think a challenge and a test is a bad thing for any athlete.

Forget the garbage at MW, he's fought enough bums .. no need to fight Cotto (far too little), Lee (zero talent ), or Quillen.

Moorer moved up when Holyfield who was a blown up cruiser was champion. You could say it paid off as he defeated Holyfield and steered clear of Lewis, Bowe and Tyson.

I have stood 15 feet from Moorer. He does not look like a light heavyweight at all. He has a big neck and a rather large head.

Moorer is a very good fundamental boxer. Stewart, Benton and Atlas are exceptional trainers who ensured his development was first class.
Kovalev would be facing a bigger man than himself and also one who not only matches him for power but has an exceptional jab. Dont underestimate the difficulty Moorers southpaw stance brings to Kovalev.
I see Moorer beating down Kovalev and the ref stepping in between rounds 8-10.

A Prince Charles Williams v Kovalev would be a great watch

Some of the reasoning here is the worst I've ever seen.

'Kovalev won a better belt so he would win '

I literally hate some of the people on this board. Single cell amoebas.

Moorer stopped every lightheavyweight he fought.
Let's wait until Kovalev has done more than beat a 50 years old man and a game but limited Pascal.
Ask the Q after he Kovalev has faced Stevenson.

I've always fancied Stevenson to beat Kovalev , but the Russian looked very impressive against Pascal especially with that jab to the body.

But the jury is still out atmo
Moorer stopped every 175lbs man he faced:think
    This match is premature imo.
Lets wait and see if Kovalev does beat Stevenson. If he should get flattened ,this head to head will look a bit silly in retrospect.

Moorer beat Leslie Stewart who was better than Jean Pascal, and not by a little bit. Watch the fight if you're a young guy.
