Watch Schmeling against Louis then and tell me that Max was just bar room brawler...

I am sorry but good as Moorer was, he is not going to avoid everything that Baer throws at him.

Baer would be the most dangerous puncher that Moorer had ever shared a ring with.

To beat Baer, you need to have a good chin at worst.

Moorers would not make the grade!

That is fine, but you must understand that if you don't watch them, your understanding of them can only ever be limited!

I have no choice but to watch modern fighters, because I will never find a historic fight that I don't know the outcome of!

Not strictly true though, is it? Les Kennedy and Willie Davis were hardly packing granite.

Les Kennedy won a decision over a 20 year old Baer, a year after his professional debut, when he was nothing more than a fighter on the local circuit.

Bear in mind that Baer had very little amateur experience before he turned professional.

There has to be some sort of statute of limitations on these things.

Willie Davis won a decision over Baer in an exhibition, where Baer was not told that a decision would be rendered.

He might even have been trying not to hurt Davis.

If we are working with meaningful fights, and taking a very generous definition of the term, then the people who beat Baer are the following:

    Tommy Loughran
    Johnny Risko
    Paulino Uzcdun
    Jimmy Braddock
    Joe Louis
    Tommy Farr
    Lou Nova

    Notice the common theme?

I'm not saying it's representative of the best Baer, but it did happen. Twice.

It isn't even representative of Baer on an off night to be honest.

I could trawl through Moorer's amateur record, to try to find the worst person who beat him, but what would it prove?

Ludicrous. He would massacre the likes of Paychek, Risko, Don McCorkindale, Levinsky, Charlie Massare, Jack Peterson, Art Lasky, Patsy Perroni, Alberto Lovell, Jimmy Adamack, Johnny Lenglet, Tuffy Griffiths... ad nauseum.

Tuffy Griffiths would have done better against Lennox Lewis than Botha did. Might even go the distance. He even had 74 wins.

FFS, did I just have a serious conversion with you on the other thread, just to see you´re on the mental level of "I don't get the criticism of Buddy Baer." ??

What the hell is wrong with people?

Do we need another hundred pages of "Carnera or Bowe" to clarify the obvious level of every ameteurish board-stiff JohnCleese-like giant coming up here?

Nice to see Seamus already straighten this nonsense.

Buddy Baer was strong, tough and hard punching. He had a damn good record, too.

What are you expecting from a 248lb SHW in an era of LHW-Cruisers? ......
