Could he yes. But would he? Probably not. Hagler fought quite a few ferocious punchers. In hindsite we discovered Nunn's chin wasn't the greatest though his height, reach and reflexes hid this flaw for the most part for most of his career. Punchers like , Sibson, Roldan, Hearns, or Mugabi. Or a fighter like Hamsho who wasn't a devastating puncher, but was very physical and aggressive in the ring and could make a slick stylist like Nunn's life hell. Can't help but think at least one of them Would eventually reach him, hurt him and stop him.
Nah, no way. Nunn was a good boxer with lots of attributes but in no universe does he have the iron toughness of Hagler and the determination to win or die. He might well beat Haglers opponents H2H in idealized matchups, yes. But going through Hagler's actual career Nunn is dog treats way before the end.
Hearns would have stopped Nunn, he was still on great form during the mid 80`s, I feel Mugabi would have stopped Nunn also, he countered nearly all of Hagler`s punches early on and would do the same to Nunn he didn`t move his head after punching.
I think Hearns wins a decision over Nunn, but Nunn would easily beat Mugabi. What did Mugabi ever do to get that much credit? Lose to Hagler? Beat Curtis Parker? Earl Hargrove? I can see Nunn hitting Mugabi on the inside with an uppercut and stopping him in 3 or 4 after tiring him out moving around .
