Nunn did not handle pressure very well so if Joe could back him up he would win but if he does not get Nunn out of centre of the ring he would have major problems and id certainly pick Nunn to win. Roldan payed a price for pressuring him but he did have spordadic success when Nunn took his foot off the gas and started clowning, Barkley made him looked terrible by backing him up and Rochigiani basically beat him because Nunn could not keep the fight in the centre of the ring and he kept getting backed up, that was a past prime Nunn though to be fair. Like i said though if you dont back Nunn up you will have lots of trouble with his speed and angles just like Toney and Tate did. Starling gave Nunn a tough fight when in theory it should of been in a walk in the park for the much bigger Nunn. Ive never seen the John Scully fight but didn't Scully pressure him to ?
What makes you think Joe could just pressure Nunn? Pressure him with what...spastic windmill punches? C'mon.. Joe was held back for 10 years FOR A REASON.
Son, Iran Barkley was able to do it and he is not the most cultured fighter at cutting the ring down is he? Either guy wins this depending on how they fight the fight, i dont like Calzaghe but im not going to let my biased cloud my judgment.
Nunn in his top form(Frank Tate bout)would beat the hell out of JC. Nunn was much taller then JC would have a huge reach advantadge and was much faster not to mention hard to hit. Alot of people don't know too much about Nunn but I can tell you he basically threw it all away-not trainging, doing things he shouldn't be doing(drugs). The John Scully bout took place well after prime Nunn. It was the Barkley fight where Nunn started to show signs that maybe he wasn't training like he should be. But I'm telling you I've seen both boxers(JC,Nunn) from the start of there careers till the end of there careers and Nunn would be a nightmare for JC.:deal
:verysad Nunn was faster and 6 foot 2. Nunn was also very intelligent inside the ropes. Calzaghe has been down more often than Nunn. Nunn would win a close decision IMO.
It is obvious that Nunn was faster than Calzaghe. I do not know what some people here are talking once again.Nunn has a slight edge in about every department.
You guys that think it's a Cal blowout don't know anything about Nunn. Michael Nunn is about as a talented a boxer as ever stepped into the ring at 160. Tremendous footwork, blinding hand speed, smooth as silk, problem was he only maintained that level for a short time and his out of the ring life was so turbulent he could never stay focused--very, very well known as a trouble maker around the Quad Cities. At 168 he was not as good a fighter as he was at 160. A half step was gone. Still a very good defensive boxer with speed, but I do think Calzaghe's aggressive style and high workrate would have won him rounds and probably a close decision. No pushover at all for Joe, Nunn's ring IQ was extremely high. I always thought it was a real shame he couldn't keep his personal life together, but instead pissed away some of the greatest talent God ever handed out.
the FACT is e dont know how Calzaghe would have done against a TOP fighter at his peak. We know he struggled with average champions like Robin Reid and Charles Brewer, and faired better against frauds like Lacy and Kessler.
Why u even bother making polls wit Calzaghe in it?? Joe Calzaghe is going to win evry poll there is U can make Joe Calzaghe-Ali poll, and i bet u he will win dat 1 too SMH
Being Honest Calzaghe deserves to be regarded as the Supermiddle who has achieved the most,....but there have been far better fighters at super middle Jones Toney Nunn Mcullum 2nd Tier would have been Clazgahe Benn Eubank Collins Reggie Johnson 3rd Tier Ottke Kessler Reid Malinga Watson Only Benn out of the 2nd tier and Calzaghe may have had a chance with the top boys.
Good post. If I'm not mistaken, Nunn also had a very good disciplined body attack which is a tactic not really tested on Calzaghe. Mitchell managed to land some bombs on Calzaghe ribcage before dropping him and so did Sheika. My feeling is that Calzaghe would try and turn this into an all out war just like those fights and stand toe to toe. Anything could have happened. Calzaghe circa 2005-6 would be content to settle for a fairly boring points decision. Close fight though. Interesting match.
