Let's not overrate Nunn here. He was a huge waste of talent, he wasn't some forgotten ATG or anything. He'd have beaten Pavlik pretty handily though.
So what the hell are you talking about then? Whenever a fighter starts to get some credit, somebody starts throwing about the word Overrated. I expected more from you, Pea. Nunn would have handily outboxed Pavlik, and that isn't overrating the guy. In saying he was a big waste of talent, and that he should have gone on to be a lot more than he was is certainly not overrating the guy either. Nobody is overrating Michael Nunn. He is forgotten.
He's not forgotten at all, he's mentioned on here a decent amount and plenty in the Classic Forum. People talk about him just as much as any other waste of talent, which is exactly what he was. The fact that you have a raging hard-on for him right now for whatever reason doesn't make him underrated. He never really did anything to merit the overzealous praise you've been giving him all day (aside from the fluky Kalambay KO), he was simply a very talented fighter who started strong but eventually whose career was slowed and halted by drugs and a lackadaisical attitude.
A 2 divisional champ, with wins over Barkley, Tate, Kalamby, and Curry. I don't have a hard on for him, because if I did, I'd change my name to 2ndToNunn. Much like if I had a hard on for Pernell Whitaker, my name would be Sweet Pea. I haven't used the word underrated. You're right. Nun doesn't deserve one day on ESB where there are maybe 3 threads baring his name. Perhaps if he got a draw against the likes of Chavez, his mention would be warranted. Listen to yourself. There's a good chance a lot of posters don't know about Nunn, so I posted a video about him that I thought was interesting and notable. I made another thread matching him up against Pavlik, two lanky Middleweights, to see what the forum knew about Nunn. If anybody is being overzealous, it's you. Which is exactly what I've been getting across. There is no problem here, your just trying your best to be a dick. Leave it alone.
Self you clearly have at least a semi for Nunn right now..Every Nunn topic I see around has been started by you.
:yep What's your point? This thread was discussing how Pavlik would fair against a prime Nunn. Irrespective of whether or not I'm discovering a new fighter is simply not important or relevant.
Don't try to make me out to be the bad guy, here. I simply stated that Nunn is being overrated by yourself in certain posts. I didn't say he wouldn't beat Pavlik (in fact I stated the opposite) or that he was some kind of bum, he's just been popping all over the board recently (again, mainly because of yourself) and being praised to high heaven, which caught me off guard. He was a great talent sure, but I wouldn't call him underrated.
I know exactly what its like though...When I found Napoles I was like wow!!! I wanted to marry him. You do tend to look at a fighter who you have a short term fasicnation with in a different light until you get a bit of perspective. Give it a week.
You're mocking me for making 3-4 posts about a fighter who is relatively under-appreciated. I hate that. I'm sick and tired of talking about the same thing, and if I want to have one day where I discover more about Michael Nunn, I expect to be able to do it without being questioned. How have I been overrating Nunn? I have said, from what I've seen and read, Nunn had all the ability to go on to establish himself as an ATG. I also said, he was winning the Toney fight up until the knockout, and he was. Outboxing Toney - ordinary fighters don't do that. Ultimately, Nunn declined and he's spending 24 years in Prison. You're saying he isn't worthy of 4 posts? Okay, shall I only praise certain fighters that you're okay with? PM the short list, I wouldn't want to go against the grain by talking about fighters other than Calzaghe, Jones, Oscar, or Pacquiao. It's refreshing to hear people talk about fighters like Michael Nunn. I haven't been hyping him up to be a top 50 p4p, or the greatest 160lb fighter that ever lived. Just stating facts, coupled with logical opinions. I think he is under-appreciated. All that is ever said about Nunn is that he didn't realise his full potential. He still has more names on his record than Joe Calzaghe, a fighter I greatly respect, so it wasn't as if all he was was wasted talent. He took on and beat all the names that were there. Toney was just a hell of a fighter. Everything else...well...that's Nunn's falt and he's paying for it.
:good I just don't want to be accused of overrating Nunn. I'm not saying he is anything more than he was, an ATG talent that didn't reach his full potential.
Make that 3-4 threads with several posts in each thread along the lines of: "Nunn was fabulous and deserves a lot more recognition than he appears to get on this forum." "...and could and "should" have gone on to be one of the best Middleweights ever" "Pavlik couldn't even hit Hopkins, how in hell does he get near a prime Nunn?" "He was beautiful, in every way. He boxed beautiful, he looked beautiful, he spoke beautifully. He really did look like a second coming of Sugar Ray. He was on top of the world." And not that it hs any real relevance to Nunn, but you're talking shite here as well: "and I draw comparisons with the Chavez/Taylor fight. Of course, Chavez never was competitive in that fight, and Toney was coming on in the last few rounds." You're not questioning anyone, you're telling them about how "fabulous" and under-appreciated this lackadaisical waste of talent was. He's not underappreciated, once again. He was a big waste of talent, even during his heyday that was apparent with the half-assed performances he'd give. He gets talked about quite often. Many fighters would be capable of out-boxing Toney, he's quite overrated, especially against out-boxers and movers. You've been overrating him for the reasons mentioned above. But it's not just your posts, it's the air in the tone of your posts, you clearly have a hard-on for him right now. As evidenced by some of the statements I quoted above such as implying that he had better defense than Hopkins, or in general, this right here. I make a simple statement about not going overboard with Nunn and you jump down my throat as if I've just offended your family. Stop your ****ing whining! Yes, that's EXACTLY what I'm saying. Michael Nunn isn't worthy of 4 posts. You took that in the perfect context. Well done. See that you don't. Along with the sensation that runs through your lower half whenever you look at the Nunn poster on your ceiling.
True True Absolutely Absolutey You cut out the most important part of that post where I clarified it was only similar in how each of taylors and Nunns careers went down hill afterwards. I also said it was no injustice that Toney won by KO. . Wrong again, Guru. I was telling them about how fabulous and under appreciated his talent and accomplishments was. He doesn't get talked about that often, and along with the half assed performance he still had great ones. Oh wait, the KO was a fluke wasn't it Pea? How convenient for your argument. Like I said, "ordinary fighters don't outbox Toney" If you don't like "the air in tone" then stay the **** out of the threads. Idiot. I was implying that if the version of Hopkins of today can use movement to ofset Pavlik, a fighter of Nunn's balance and footwork could also. atschYou read what you want to read, don't you. I was offended because what you were talking was bull****. The "tone" of your issue sounded like you have a problem with Nunn even being mentioned. As long as your sorry
