Watson would've stepped in and knocked Nunn out with an overarm right at Highbury or Wembley Stadium in '91. Not the Nunn of '87-'89 (who was as close to unbeatable as any fighter in history), I mean the Nunn who fought Starling and Curry. That's when Hearn and Watson strongly fancied their chances of taking Nunn, and Arum was prepared to back him. As it happens, he went on to fight McCallum and Eubank at the weight, and gave a great pressure-fighting effort against McCallum while rusty but was countered below the shoulders too much, and absorbed the ultra-accurate Eubank's shortest power shots through the defense although got comfortably out-classed... The Watson of the Eubank rematch at the heavier weight however was as close to unbeatable as Nunn at his very best.
All the respect in the world for Watson. Brave talented guy. Just not as talented as Nunn. No shame in that. Very few boxers were/are as talented as Nunn.
Some real cutting level posts from Flea and Lora in here if anyone wants some realistic insights into Nunn.
