Any opinion how this would have played out?

Both fighters looked unimpressive vs high guard fighters, Jones couldn`t create an opening vs Sugar boy Malinga, until he got threw against the lesser fighter in about Rd 6 of their bout and stopped Malinga, Jones could bang and threw harder shots than Nunn. Michael looked awful vs the peek a boo defense of Marlon, Starling was better than anyone Jones faced though at middle and Nunn would have done far better against Jones than a green Hopkins or the James Toney that Jones fought, Nunn actually landed far more punches vs Toney in their bout than Jones did vs Toney, but Nunn got caught more. It would be a close boring fight but Jones ducked Nunn at super middle, having said that Nunn went on to lose to Frank Liles who Jones also ducked, if these two had of been in their primes at middle at the same time, Jones would have ducked him.

Nunn had similar problems opening up Starling`s to the problem`s Jones had opening up Malinga`s high guard.

Peak Nunn around 1988 would give Jones fits. His moveent and lefty stance would greatly trouble Roy. He would force Jones to lead. Jones would be relegated to leaping in from the outside. He might catch Nunn and hurt him, but it's by no means a certainty. I can see Nunn winning a close decision in an unexciting encounter.

I am not an RJJ fan and find him vastly overrated, but he was great. I could see Nunn keeping this close through 6 or so, but ultimately I see RJJ stoping him around 10 or taking a 117-111 type decision

Jones would come on after 3-5 rounds. Later stoppage or decision win.

RJJ wanted nothing to do with Nunn … the easy road was RJJ's way .. RJJ on points

I pick Nunn on points. Jones was at his best at 168 and not 160. Against his best opponent, a relatively green Hopkins, Jones looked pretty ordinary.I am a bit surprised that some folks are picking Jones by stoppage. As far as I remember, Nunn has only been stopped one time in his entire career.

Roy won every round against Malinga, who fought very defensively for the first 3 rounds.

    Malinga was tough.

Roy was one of only 3 guys to stop him, with the other 2 being right at the end of his career. Benn, Eubank, Rochigianni and Reid couldn't stop him.

Regarding Nunn, it would have been a very difficult fight for Roy. Both of them would have gone feint for feint with each other. Roy would have had to have been aggressive.

Roy deserves criticism for the way he messed Nunn around when he was his mandatory at LHW, but how did he duck him at SMW?

    How did Roy duck Liles?

Mark, what is your deal with Matthew Fouts?

    This guy regularly gets ridiculed.

And why on earth did you ask him his opinion on Toney vs De La Hoya at MW?

This one always made me wonder. Nunn a 6’1 southpaw with fast hands and freaky reflexes. I’ve been on record here saying how high I am on RJJ but I’ve always been of the mindset that the Peak Nunn could have really troubled Roy. The Nunn that absolutely overwhelmed Tate was something.

I’m not sure how I see this one.

Both phenomenal athletes. The difference was Jones had a better defense, better use of optimal range and was a better puncher. Nunn was rangier but he didn't always use that range well. If Jones does drop rounds because of Nunns range behind I think he'd look to walk Nunn down

Such ignorance. Benn, Nunn and Liles were Don King promoted fighters. Jones offered to make fights with them on a 1 fight basis but King only wanted the fights providing he could promote Roy Jones future bouts. Jones wouldn't let Don King screw him over the way so many boxers got screwed over

This is Jones dominating Liles in the Olympic Qualifiers. No way did he duck Liles when he beat him this easy
