Not really. Starling stayed close, but how else did he fight. He was not going to move around like Sugar Ray Leonard. He was a guy who blocked punche with his gloves to his head and with sometimes open glove and he was in range that way. Nunn seemed to coast in that fight and the Curry fight later that year. Curry was a little tougher in my mind, but Nunn was too big either way as he would be to Canelo.

The 114-114 was utterly terrible. The other two cards were more on the money. Starling had trouble reaching him. There was never any controversy.

A boring sub par performance per expectations while still winning in a canter doesn't equal life and death.

If someone called it a poor performance i would agree however. From post Kalambay to Toney he hadn't been impressive at all really hence why i mentioned he has become a little bit overrated earlier. When he looked good he looked damn good prior tho. He also boxed pretty well vs Toney. I'm trying to remember when the drug claims started. I think it was actually just after the Toney loss.

Good stuff. Disappointing boring fight but a Nunn win for sure.

Give it 10 years. You can mark this post and then come back and admit that you had no idea that Oscar's cherrypicking abilities and well-oiled PR machine could do such things. Canelo is an exceptional fighter, and enough promotion will turn him into an ATG. Sadly.

Canelo generates so much hate on here (almost as bad as general) that it is really pointless to even discuss him very much. “Nunn wins 9-3 but loses a decision” is such a tired narrative. The 2 G fights were close and I scored a draw and a Canelo win...I am not even a Canelo fan but I find myself defending him all the time...is he an ATG??? Not yet, but hard to say? Is he a current great? Absolutely! You would need a major agenda to refuse to acknowledge that one IMO... and I still think Nunn beats him

How is he an alltime great? He beat GGG by decsions that could be questioned.
Lara fight could have gone either way.
    Mayweather boxed his ears off.
So how is Canelo an alltime great?

Similar to Nunn vs Toney but Canelo isn't getting that KO.

I don't think Canelo is as original as Toney to throw the punch when Nunn was on the ropes way back. Canelo is more textbook punches left hook to the body, right hand. etc. Nunn would outbox him.

Life and Death with Lara? I've never ever seen a fighter land so few legit punches on their opponent as Canelo did against Lara and still "win".

If you had Canelo-GGG I a draw then you are CERTANLEY a Canelo fan.

I'd bet on Nunn. I reckon even the sleepy, 'mind-is-somewhere-else-but-here' version of Nunn could take the decision against Alvarez.

It is completely accurate. He was matched with Cotto when Cotto was 35. He finally fought GGG when GGG was 35. Both matches were made the minute team Alvarez wanted them. Classic match making when drawing power dictates match up.

And I guess you are not? Or a GGG fan....which is probably why you would make such a goof ball comment? This is not general where you score fights for the guy who you are a fan boy of....I score many fights for and against guys I pull for (and *hint* they are usually from Philly). But feel free to post your card or quote some punch stats lol

Don’t like my card? That is fine....really not concerned a whole lot whether you think I am a Canelo fan or not.
