Monzon is interesting because Nunn has a longer reach and faster hands which negates a lot of what Monzon does well, but I would still favor very slightly due to his unreal stamina that could get him a late KO. I would favor Hagler also by late KO. Hopkins beats the hell out of Nunn, like Target but even worse. Completely dominating him inside. Hearns is 50/50 I think Nunn beats Leonard the physical advantages are just too great
The Nunn that beat Kalambay was an ATG in the making.....talent wise, size, speed and ring IQ he beats them all.....few handled Toney as easy up until he gassed....the drugs took over But his lack of longevity and discipline I agree with everyone else I would only bet on him beating SRL....
This. Nunn would wipe the floor with Monzon, IMHO. Hopkins has no chance. Hagler is 60/40 to Nunn. SRL loses. Hearns would be 50/50 due to Tommy's skill.
Sorry to hijack the thread, but could one of you guys recommend a couple of Nunn fights where I can see him at his best? (aside from Kalambay) Thanks in advance.
Tate was probably his most masterful performance. His performance against Roldan was also impressive and underrated (because he fought a foolish, macho fight for a stretch of the fight).
Yeah, I recognize that Monzon always “found a way to win” but I’d favor Nunn to stick and move his way to a very clear decision. I think he’s just about the worst style matchup for Monzon possible at 160.
I know Hagler would have to come out smoking the way he did against Hearns to win this fight. I don't think Nunn is unbeatable, but I don't think any middleweight is going to out box him, aside from Hearns which is a 50-50 fight.
As a tall guy myself I can tell you that Nunn's style takes a lot of stamina to maintain. There are 2 styles that will fare well against him. The Kamikaze Hagler from the Hearns fight takes him out in about 4. The other is how James Toney handled him. Stay safe on defense and work the body at every opportunity. Make him come to you and make him pay with his gas tank. I'd Favor Monzon and Hagler to win by KO. Hopkins had issues with Jermain Taylor, part of that was stylistic part of it was due to his own declining athleticism. Hopkins and Hearns are a coin-toss though, I think Nunn would land first against Hearns due to his stellar head movement. He's all wrong for SRL.
