Say spinks moved up from lght heavy to heavy around 1948. How s he do put up against the aging version of Louis? Does he replicate the Holmes victory and out smart the bomber? And what about match ups with old foxy Walcott and the brilliant Ezzard Charles?
i think he takes 48 louis by a fairly wide decision, dont see louis landing more than one or two at a time while spinks outsmarts a Blackburn-less Louis. my guess is walcott-spinks would be a pretty boring fight with neither willing to engage. if one did try and press for a stoppage, i think walcott is more likely to get caught than spinks. Charles-spinks, whew... id have no idea. gut feeling is charles by a very close decision.
Excuse me but Joe louis was only 35 years old when he fought Marciano. on October 26, 1951 Joseph Louis Barrow (May 13, 1914 – April 12, 1981), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Louis Rocky was 25 years old. So that’s a ten-year difference,. However, 35 is not an old man and neither was the the year difference insurmountable as repeatedly demonstrated by others who have emerged victorious despite such age differences and greater ones. For example: Foreman beat Moorer who was 27 at age 45 with a whopping 17 year difference. Hopkins was born in 1965 beat Jean Pascal born in 1982 A a whopping thirteen year difference. Triple G is is the same age that Louis was when he fought Marciano-35 and is still beating younger men such as Dominic Wade who is 27 -an eight- year difference. In fact, Golovkin is now touted as being able to obliterate the younger Canelo who is 27 [another eight-year difference] in their scheduled fight. So calling Louis at 35 and others of approx. his age old men seems weird!
I know what your saying Radrook but men that age back then were seen as old. Walcott at 37 was seen as geriatric, even though he had the skill to be beating marciano. Moore was only in his late 30 s /early 40 s but was called ancient! In terms of life age they were still young ish men, but in Boxing back then you was '' old :'
Spinks would probably beat a comeback Louis similar to how he beat Holmes. I don't think Louis could land too often to stop Spinks or the speed to outbox Spinks at that point. Charles vs Spinks is a tough one. The only advantage Spinks has over Charles at heavyweight is size. That fight would be a skillsfest which would feature some good exchanges. Not sure on this one but I'm going to say Spinks simply because of his size advantage. Walcott and Spinks is also a fight that goes either way. Walcott probably had an edge in physical strength. Walcott could crack, but I'm not sure he could do to a 200+ lb Spinks what Tyson did, but he probably could floor Spinks. This could be a close fight but I'll say Spinks edges a razor thin decision. If Spinks fought Louis in 1947 and 1948 I could see Spinks having the same sort of fights with Louis that Walcott did. Up on the cards, Louis catches him late and stops him.
