Folks look at Tua's record. All those shocking KO's came from fighting guys that stood in front of him. Tua really didn't fight to many guys that could really box and when he did, he lost. Lewis and Byrd losses stand out as the times he fought elite boxers and lost. Again, Spinks was one of the more tactical smart fighters to grace the ring. People look at his fight with Tyson as some sort of indicator for this fight which is wrong. Spinks was in his 30's, had shot knees and was there to be paid. Prime Spinks would use his legs and reach to completely dominant the limited and overrated Tua. Could Tua land a lucky punch? Maybe, but if we are talking 85' ot earlier Spinks, he won't get close enough to do it. Tua destroyed guys that stood in front of him and tried to trade, Spinks ain't no fool.
no. Oquendo tried to move and got caught up with and dispatched. Nicholsen tried to dance and got clubbed. Rahman tried to box and got koed. Look what happened to Moorer, another blown up light heavy.Overpowered quickly and wrecked.
Do you really think Fres and Rahman are boxers even remotely on the level of Spinks? An analogy for you. You put Holmes and Spinks in an 8×8 cell and have them fight, Holmes would destroy Spinks. Put them in a boxing ring and you get what you got. At his best, Spinks could take over a fight with his skill. Tua could not hold either of their jock straps. I'm going to bed, good night.
Gerry Cooney was an 8-5 betting favorite against a one legged Michael Spinks. Folks really fall in love with that left hook power. Again, it looks great against guys that are there to be hit. Spinks is not that guy and he sure as **** ain't Fres Oquendo.
Spinks could well outbox him but his durability at heavyweight was quite ordinary so Tua will only ever be one solid punch away from turning the fight on it's head.
Although he could beat Tua, I don't think he would. I'll go for Tua by KO, and say he's behind on the scorecards but knocks Spinks silly, mid-rounds.
