Tyson was 218, thats an honest mistake that he made. Unless you want to tell me how much 6 pounds makes a difference to the point he was making about size here.
Rather than make a comparison with Foreman-Young, I think a better comparison is with Foreman-Norton. Spinks is more similar to Norton than Young in that both Norton and Spinks are kind of awkward and threw punches at all angles. I think Spinks would last as long against Foreman as Norton did.
Norton was really not a mover. Ali-Young-Spinks all are movers. The question is who did Foreman ever beat that could really move? Because it looks like every time he fought a cutie he lost.
Foreman might have been green but Peralta was 35 years old. I don't think going the distance with a 35 year old Gregorio Peralta presents a very good case for Foreman. If anything it shows just how much movement and spoiling really bother Foreman
A very green Foreman who hadn’t placed the emphasis on cutting rings he later would. They’re impressive victories, especially stopping Peralta, which was exceptionally difficult. But in any case, the point I was making was to the notion that he was beaten every time he faced a cutie.
I don't think stopping an even older Gregorio Peralta wipes away going the distance with him. It took Foreman 20 rounds to do that. Peralta was stopped in 6 rounds by light hitting Willie Pastrano. And wasn't 35 years old when he did it.
Well I'll concede that then. I'll add to it that he never looked good against cuties. I will also put Spinks closer to Ali and Young than to Gregorio Peralta. Its really hard to watch Foreman against Peralta and not see Spinks being anything but a total nightmare for Foreman even if it did take him 20 rounds of boxing to eventually get the KO like it did against Peralta. If thats the best that Foreman can look against a cutie then Spinks does at least better than that.
How would you say Spinks looked against the one Heavy he faced with a big punch & a mean stare? I question whether he would even sign for this fight, & I’m not being facetious.
Its a little flukey to go by 1 round of boxing to predict how an entirely different fight would pan out. You think Foreman stops Spinks in 1 but it took him 20 rounds to stop Peralta? Cooney could punch but he couldn't lay a glove on Spinks.
A very young Foreman who hadn’t learned his craft with cutting the ring. Peralta wouldn’t last three or four rounds with the Foreman on 1974. Personally I figure on Tyson being a lot closer to prime Foreman than a washed up Cooney was (it was a good performance by Spinks, not saying it wasn’t, but Cooney did not frighten him in the least). I can’t look at him the same way after such a blatant five against Tyson. How he could ever cope with a prime Foreman even at the staredown, I can’t imagine. Beyond the psychology of it, Spinks was too frail physically to cope with Foreman.
When did I never give Spinks credit for the win ? The only thing I didn't agree with was your bizarre opinion that Holmes looked physically the same at 35 years old with an obvious pot belly at 220+ pounds. Compared to his prime 5 years previously weighing 10 pounds lighter on average. So either you're trolling, have some weird Michael Spinks fan boy opinions, or you need your eyes testing. Either way I don't really care that opinion is utterly ridiculous and only you seemed to have that bizarre opinion which speaks volumes I rest my case.
Want to know why Holmes didn't look the same? Its because he was fighting a spoiler who took away his jab and never let him fight his fight. Thats something I already know you will never ever admit but thats not going to make it any less true. Another thing that isn't true is that Holmes had a pot belly just more and more hyperbole untruths from you https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/Dl_GaRe24Tqc89gGk7Db8KeuToM=/0x0:3591x2435/920x613/filters:focal(1574x615:2148x1189):format(webp)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/66568857/84389863.jpg.0.jpg Heres your pot belly. Holmes weighing just 10 pounds more in his 30's than he did in 20's is consistent with a man growing into his body in his 30's not with a guy who doesn't train or is out of shape
