Most likely would have heard of such a thing before or during the broadcast but at least a few times in the twenty years since the fight. However, if it is true, I would guess it would be because Spinks was using big, punishing fighters in the Tyson mold to prepare for Mike himself. Could have caught a decent shot during sparring. His handlers would probably have reacted as described to protect Spinks for the fight and to protect his image of being a strong fighter and not easily hurt.

True, when Spinks was deciding whether to move up to Heavyweight Page gave him a pretty hard time sparring. Enough to give him second thoughts, apparently. Realistically tho Spinks was no genuine heavyweight tho his overall greatness as a fighter made him decent there.

Spinks was not a real heavy but a great fighter and light heavy and it showed up in the HVYWEIGHT ranks....he was highly competitve but Tyson and even Holmes showed us he would not be dominant

I haven't noticed that, but why would I? But for every person you'll run into like that in your life, I think you'll find at least one other one who's not. I like your stuff.

No, I give him a lot of credit, I just have a very strong dislike for him as a person.
