how about that left hook/uppercut from a great angle.....boom!

Spinks was dynamite. Spinks is one of the best looking fighters on film. Complete unorthodox style, but great skills, great angles, great feet, fantastic accuracy in his punches, underrated power, fast reflexes, very durable...a truly great fighter. One of the best ever at 175

Great ko from a great fighter. A true classy guy. I know when it was announced he was stepping up to meet Holmes ,my initial thought was he'd go out fighting but leave the ring battered !
But spinks was a special kind of fighter.

One of my all time favorite fighters. I grew up watching and recoding all his fights. The video I posted is a excellent montage of what an absolute beast he was!!!!!

Brilliant fighter. His power is ridiculous - both hands too.

One of my favourite fighters ever. Love this interview after the fight where he describes the knockout, And as for the press conference when Larry Holmes made the jockstrap remark, look for Michael's interview where his voice seems to break. Utterly brilliant.

Great kayo by a great fighter. This and Juan kayo of Rocky Lockridge were the knockouts of 1981, IMHO.

In the past few months I’ve been revisiting his major fights, not on YouTube on my original VHS recordings, YouTube is great but my recordings are a bit better quality plus fully complete with all the pre and post fight.

He did a real number on many a good/great fighter. At light heavyweight I’d make him the favorite over almost anyone at that weight. Power in both hands, speed, stamina he was the total package.

At heavyweight he just befuddled Larry in their first fight. He clearly won fight number 1. His movement and the angles he would take when delivering punches were uniquely executed and effective. His lack of a normal rhythm and unpredictability are a thing of beauty really. I love watching him fight. I think he would have had a good chance vs many of the alphabet champs of the Era. His conditioning was off the charts, he really trained hard, his engine was unbelievable he’d have a full tank in rounds 13-15. He was made for the 15 round distance.

I also rewatched and scored fight #2 vs Holmes a fight that is unfairly often labeled as a robbery. It’s a 1 or 2 point fight in all honesty IMO. This time I scored it as a 1 point victory for Spinks, but I scored 2 rounds even. So it’s anybody’s fight really. Spinks did very little early in the fight but after round 5 he started really putting it on Holmes again. I remember interviews back then where Spinks said he fully intended to knock Holmes out and he fought that way, he didn’t use nearly as much movement. But he still unloaded on Larry and really was all over him in some rounds.

I think Spinks out landed Holmes in the first fight by more than 80 punches, in a fight he clearly won.

Fight #2 only had a 3 punch difference in total punched landed between Holmes and Spinks. It was no robbery.
