What would have happened if Michael Spinks had fought Trevor Berbick or Pinklon Thomas instead of Holmes? Would he have walked away with a title?

Sure. Thomas deteriorated quite a bit after that Weaver fight and really looked bad against Berbick. As for Trevor, he goes the distance of course but it 's just hard to picture him with his hand raised after 15 rounds.

Thomas and his jabbed would cause problems for Spinks, though Michael would most likely eek out a decision.

    Spinks would easily outpoint Berbick.

I can see this. I do think Thomas would be a challenge for Spinks most definitely. Berbick would be out boxed

I think he could have beaten both in '85.

They were straight ahead guys without food speed. He could have used his funky and unorthodox moves to outpoint both.

I think he would have had more trouble with Tubbs and Witherspoon.

He probably could have beaten Page who looked somewhat faded in the Tubbs fight.

He may have decisioned Berbick, but Pinklon at his best, no way Spinks beats him, he would lose a decision. And if Page beat Michael in the gym, I think it would be wise for Spinks to stay real far way from Greg. Real far.

If he could beat Holmes he could beat these guys. He might struggle a little but he would win. I don't think he wanted the really tough fights with contenders like Berbick or Thomas. I think he wanted the big fights like Cooney for show.. Tangsted or whatever his name was . That was an easy fight. And Tyson he went in there scared I think. I never thought I would see him freaked out like that, but just the wrong style for him. Spinks style at heavyweight was to avoid punches and eek out wins.. Tyson was going to hit whomever he fought at that stage.

Thomas beats him , possibly stops him.

Berbick he could beat. I favor spinks

Witherspoon tubbs and Tucker beat him, too young , too fresh

He could possibly beat a fading dokes.

Smith he might beat, i favor spinks.

Bruno he could possibly beat if he managed to get bruno tired enough.

He could beat Carl williams possibly

He could beat a bad version of Buster Douglas

He would beat an old Weaver

Holmes lack of volume punching and how set he was in his style because of his age/time spent at elite level already(meaning that he wasnt going to suddenly turn into an offensive machine to get Spinks outta there)
    Were big factors.

Spinks is better than Berbick no doubt, but if Berbick mauls him he could win. Thomas beats Spinks

Spinks would box Trevs head off .Just a big strong bloke with a screw lose ! Thomas would be more difficult but he was on the slide at this point.

He beats Berbick ,in a rather one sided affair. The guy was strong and durable but limited. Spinks unanimous decision.
Not certain about Thomas tbh,he's gone back a bit here in the time scale .I'll go with Spinks getting a decision over him but it's a little like the second Holmes fight ,a little controversial.

I don't think Spinks can beat Pinky.. not sure about Trevor either.. Im not a big believer of Spinks against a prime aged heavyweight

Before Pink went on the slide, I think he beats Spinks.
