On paper it should be an easy night for Spinks. But then again, James Toney has the tendency to ruin a lot of paper predictions. My guess is Spinks by a decision in a fight where he doesn't look terribly impressive.

This would be a very good fight and I would love to see it. Michael Spinks had that big right hand and you aren't going to get rich hitting James Toney with right hands. Both of them were real boxing smart so it would be a good fight.

I don't think Spinks ever fought at CW.

He missed out on the CWs when he was beating ATG heavyweights.

Spinks convincing decision in a very ugly fight. Toney had one great boxing IQ but he was so inconsistent.

Yes you figured Toney was classic 'old school' and would ruin the latest flash in the pan. In reality he often came in unmotivated (Jones onwards) and made you look a fool for backing him. Spinks was an honest, quality fighter, who pre Tyson did not let you down, indeed sometimes over performed.

Spinks kicks Toney's ass at 175. It wouldn't really be that close at all. And I say that as a HUGE Toney fan.

Both guys in prime condition, Spinks would batter Toney.
    It's hardly a contest.

On a good night for Toney, Spinks has a problem. If he doesn't throw, and land, his right hand, Toney is going to come to him behind a very strong jab and then beat him up. If he does throw the right- and, if memory serves one right hand early tamed Qawi- Toney will roll and counter it. That will tame Spinks and then Toney will walk him down.

LMAO @ this post! This is a post I'd expect on the general forum.

Toney wasn't a stalker! He was a fricken COUNTER PUNCHER! Unlike Qawi, who was an ALL TIME GREAT pressure fighter, and even he couldn't get to Spinks!

    So how could Toney?

Toney isn't beating up ****. He'd have NO answer for Spinks jab, and Spinks' right hand would definitely find Toney, and HURT him.

Both Qawi, and Eddie Mustafa were VERY GOOD defensively, and Spinks was able to seriously hurt them. At 175, BOTH those fighters were better than Toney.

Spinks beats Toney by a WIDE margin!

To pick Toney in this matchup is downright disrespectful to Spinks.

And once again I'll say, Toney's one of my favorite fighters. But Spinks several levels better than him.

You don't struggle with Michael Nunn, go life-and-death with Mike McCallum, get a gift against David Tiberi, get schooled by Roy Jones Jr, lose to Montell Griffin ...... and then go and beat MICHAEL SPINKS.

Toney was good. Very good. Great perhaps. But Spinks is one of the very best head-to-head at 175 pounds, in the whole of history.

Its unfortunate that Spinks whole career is overshadowed by that fateful 91 seconds
