There is no way they can win either, Spinks and Moorer own at this weight, with Bob Foster, Charles and Patterson of course respectively, a few others are worth mentioning also like Qawi, but the big 5 H2H guys I think I have covered. A great MW and a great SMW respectively will fail miserably against those monsters. Now, for more point, guys even like Hagler and Monzon, two top 30 MW P4P ATG's, would get stopped against those guys I listed above. It's ridiculous to put guys who were large LHW's, monsters in skill and punching power at the weight, against these weight jumping pseudo-LHW P4P elite's here. Can't do it. A match that's a legit toss up is prime RJJ at 200 vs. Haye at 200, I can see either winning.:good
Looks like 2 people don't appreciate how great of a fighter Michael Spinks was, a crying shame that the Tyson KO 1 is the most thought of thing about his career and not his fabulous run as a LHW and fair HW run as an undersized guy at the division. Spinks is a certified ATG.
And to think that stylistically counter punchers are trouble for him anyway, christ, could there be a worse match for him aside from Foster? Who's probably the hardest hitting LHW ever. Foster KO 3.
I've had a lot of trouble picking a winner in this fight. Jones would have to be extremely cautious and defensively aware. I could see him potshotting Haye, out-speeding him, out-manuvering him, and winning by UD or a late stoppage. But we all know Jones's chin would be vulnerable against a huge punching cruiserweight, so realistically, one punch from Haye could end it. And given Haye's height, speed, accuracy and timing, he'd have a very good chance. Very close, evenly matched fight. No outcome would really surprise me. Speaking back to the light heavyweights, I could see Calzaghe beating Moore at the weight, although I'd like to see more from him, preferably against Dawson. Both at 168, and I'd favor Calzaghe. Stylistically, he's all wrong for the Ol' Mongoose.
Moore was better at LHW, but people are equated a flash KD on a perfectly timed shot, where Joe was not even hurt, to an indicator that he's got less than a good chin at LHW, that's incorrect. And personally, I don't think Moore's quite developed enough on the evolutionary line to be in the same H2H league as the others I highlighted, but this is debatable, I'd probably favour Moore at LHW and CERTAINLY over the now 36 year old Calzaghe. I pick Spinks, Moorer, Foster to KTFO Joe because they had CW level punches at LHW, I'd pick them all to stop granite chinned Hagler as well, just not James Toney, with Toney's defence and titanium jaw, he's probably the only 'un-KOable' fighter in history.:yep
Why dont we just start a Peter Buckley v Lennox Lewis thread. Why do people keep coming up with these ridiculous match ups just to put a negative spin on a fighter doing well for himself?!
Calzaghe has a very good chin, he was just caught cold like many fighters do in the first round. I think he takes a good punch at this weight, B-Hop hit him with a few good right hands and he hits hard at 175 (he dropped Tarver). That said, guys like Foster and Spinks are big lightheavyweights and the two best ever at 175. Guys like Calzaghe, Hopkins and Jones are blown up middleweights. I pick Foster and Spinks by late stoppage over all of them.
Toney has a great chin but he is no Oliver Mccall. He was dropped by Roy, by Reggie Johnson and by Peter. I love the guy, It is extremly difficult to knock him out, but he is knockoutable for sure when he faces a Bob Foster.
I saw Spinks hit a guy so hard with an uppercut it lifted his feet about 4" off the canvass. The guy fell flat on his face liking something in a cartoon! :hey
Moorer is not in that class. Jones rates above him for one. I'd take quite a few others over him as well, even in a head to head sense.
I'd favor Jones over Moore quite easily based on styles. Based on what we saw of Calzaghe vs an old Hopkinss at LHW though, no way I would favor Joe, not at 175 at least. 168 is a decent possibility though, then again Joe is far more open to being hit with Moore's counters and timed shots than Jones given his style.
