Michael Spinks could have remained a lightweight for the rest of his career (what would the LHW ATG list look like then?), but he decided to do something more. And for that he deserves respect. IMO one should not infer anything about how Michael Spinks avoided Tony Tucker and fought Mike Tyson. Good video Rummy.
Great video as aways Rummy. My favorite light-heavy for sure. A #3 placement for light-heavyweight seems appropriate I think. And I agree, I do the facepalm thing every time some numbhead only wants to talk about Tyson or the Holmes decisions every time this otherwise already great fighter comes up. Very frustrating. If he never fought either of those two, he'd already be worthy of this video.
Gotta check this out. @Rumsfeld on Michael Spinks … that’s two ATGs wrapped up in one video. For me, Michael Spinks is No. 1 all-time at 175 pounds. I’m not saying he was completely unbeatable — styles make fights — but if every top light heavyweight all-time fought each other, I think Spinks would end up with the best record. (I certainly respect the opinion of anyone who has Ezzard, Archie or Foster above him but I’ll take the Jinx).
Well done @Rumsfeld. Great video highlighting an ATG. Although I have always respected and admired Spinks I will admit that I am one of those who, too often, thought about him in terms of his heavyweight career instead of his bouts 175. Thank you for the entertaining course correction.
