Joshua would probably knock him the F out. There was a reason Spinks ducked Tucker, dumping his belt, and shaked like a leaf coming up against Tyson... pure punching power. In my opinion he lost the rematch against Holmes too after the upset, and shouldn't have been "the man" at the time.
He'll school the bodybuilder. The awkward style, the short height, the agility, and the superior ring iq. ALL WRONG for Joshua. Despite his chin, Spink's chances of beating and KOing Joshua are excellent He beat Cooney, so he could beat that robotic log of wood anyday. Joshua just isn't that guy. Even the likes of GGG and Brian Castano would fold him like laundry and he'd quit on his stool
Joshua, the much bigger and stronger man, would have a chance. But my guess is that at the very least Spinks would do well enough to be gifted a decision like he did against Holmes II. Spinks was a smart crafty very skillful fighter.
Yes, the reason was money. https://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Michael_Spinks_vs._Gerry_Cooney Spinks was stripped of the IBF heavyweight title in February of 1987 for refusing to fight Tony Tucker, the #1 IBF contender. Don King won the right to promote a Spinks-Tucker title fight with a purse bid of $711,000. In the case of a purse bid, the purse is divided 75 percent to 25 percent in favor of the champion. That would mean $533,250 for Spinks. Instead of fighting Tucker, Spinks fought Cooney for a guaranteed purse of $4 million. Cooney was guaranteed $2.5 million.
Spinks would school him. Spinks ended Holmes' domination in boxing. 35-36 year old Holmes is better than current bodybuilder in my book.
Spinks used active head movement v Holmes just like Usyk did v AJ and they kept moving and feinting their lead hands but Usyk did it much better and displayed more movement v AJ than Spinks did v Holmes, I feel the right hands that caught Usyk would have caught Spinks and AJ would go on to stop him.
Spinks froze up in front of Tyson. He could do the same thing against Joshua. If he doesn't fear Joshua then he could beat Anthony like he beat Cooney.
Spinks about as big as Usyk. Even more awkward. Hits much harder. Spinks wins thus. Highilght reel knockout.
Bad matchup stylistically for Joshua, but Spinks had bad habits that i feel Joshua can exploit. Like being overly aggressive and leaving himself open for the counter punch. If Spinks could fight a more diciplined fight id favor him to beat Joshua. Good hypothetical fight though.
I would not count out a Spinks Win. He could hit, was much more skilled than AJ. But size WILL be an issue. Still, can see Spinks in a tough win.
