Claiming 175 pound Spinks does not have one punch KO power is one of the most absurd comments i have ever read on any forum, not just boxing. How could you ever expect to be taken seriously :good
Spinks beats Foster in all categories except punching power. His speed, defensive skills and volume of punches he dishes out stop Foster via TKO in the late rounds. I believe Yaqui Lopez at his best had the ability to beat Foster as well
Probably the 2 best LHWs of my lifetime. Not much difference between them as was said above, with Foster holding a slight edge in both. I just see Spinks as the better boxer who will be able to force the distance and pace of the fight controlling both. I look for Spinks to take a decision, unless Bob presses the action to much, then I think Michael stops him
This. Michael Spinks was a very talented fighter, but Foster fought much better competition than Spinks and most likely lays him out in the later rounds.
I would say Qawi and Gregory are better than anything on Fosters resume at LHW, and I might pick Qawi over Foster
Foster had one of the greatest jabs in history and it's definitely better than Spinks. I'd also rate his handspeed above Michael, Foster could really whip those punches out there.
Interesting thought on the jab. I always thought of thier jabs in a lens of Liston/Holmes. Hard to say whose was better? They utilize them different but both accomplish what thier styles need. I think of Foster as one that is a weapon but also deters crowding and controls space. Whereas I see Spinks as the quicker jab using in to control both space and pace...not sure I see ones jab as substantially better
Spinks has a fine jab but for me Foster's jab is absurdly good. I see it as one of the great p4p jabs personally. He's also for me the greatest hitter in history at 175. Heck he might be the greatest hitter p4p too. Not only can he knock you cold with one punch but if need be he can also accumulate and wear you down without getting frustrated like some huge bangers did. It's a great match.
I'm not sure .. both guys could really fight but I really don't remember Foster tested at 175 too much .. Michael could really box and fight but he was in wars at 175 against Johnson while it lasted, Yaqui Lopez, Eddie Davis was a tough one .. Foster was the type of fight that could decapitate you with a shot .. just not sure here ..
